Huge congratulations to Cégep John Abbott College and John Abbott Islanders Hockey alumna Sena Catterall on being drafted in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL)!

Catterall was drafted 51st overall by PWHL Detroit in the 2026 draft.

Catterall made an incredible impact as a forward during her time in the blue and gold from 2019-2022. In her standout 2021–22 season, she registered 44 points (23 goals, 21 assists) in 29 games, driving the team to an RSEQ Hockey Championship.

Her work ethic, academic dedication, and leadership earned her the Jeff Mills Memorial Cup in 2022 - the College’s highest athletic honour.

While dominating on the ice for the JAC Islanders, Catterall was concurrently representing Team Québec and the Canadian Women's National Baseball Team on the diamond.

From the campus to Clarkson University, and now to the professional stage, Catterall continues to prove she is a powerhouse!

Toutes nos félicitations à l’ancienne étudiante-athlète du Cégep John Abbott et du programme de hockey des Islanders de John Abbott, Sena Catterall, pour sa sélection au repêchage de la Ligue professionnelle de hockey féminin (LPHF)!

Catterall a été sélectionnée au 51e rang au total par Detroit lors du repêchage 2026 de la LPHF.

Attaquante dynamique, elle a laissé sa marque sous les couleurs bleu et or de 2019 à 2022. Lors de son exceptionnelle saison 2021-2022, elle a récolté 44 points (23 buts, 21 passes) en 29 matchs, contribuant grandement à la conquête d’un championnat de hockey du RSEQ.

Son éthique de travail, son excellence académique et son leadership lui ont valu la Coupe commémorative Jeff Mills en 2022, la plus haute distinction sportive décernée par John Abbott College.

Tout en dominant sur la glace avec les Islanders de John Abbott, Catterall représentait également Équipe Québec et l’équipe nationale féminine de baseball du Canada sur le terrain.

Du campus à l’Université Clarkson, puis maintenant chez les professionnelles, Catterall continue de démontrer qu’elle est une athlète d’exception!

🏒 ONCE AN ISLANDER, ALWAYS AN ISLANDER / UN JOUR ISLANDER, TOUJOURS ISLANDER! 🏒

Huge congratulations to John Abbott College and John Abbott Islanders Hockey alumna Naomi Boucher on being drafted in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL)!

Boucher is officially taking her game to the professional stage in New York after being selected 67th overall by the Sirens in the 2026 draft.

An elite offensive threat, Boucher was a crucial piece of the 2021–22 roster, racking up 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) in just 27 games. Her playmaking ability anchored the Islanders' forward lines and helped pilot the program to its RSEQ Hockey Championship victory.

Following her time as a JAC Islanders, she continued to make a massive impact at Yale University, earning the prestigious Wendy Blanning Award during the 2023–24 season for her exceptional team play and continuous individual growth.

It is with deep sadness that John Abbott College acknowledges the tragic shooting that occurred yesterday in Montréal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood, which claimed the lives of police officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane and civilian Michael Moshe Mizrahi, and left another police officer in hospital.

In their honour, the College will lower its flag to half-mast as a sign of respect, remembrance, and solidarity.

Our thoughts are with the families, friends, colleagues, and all those affected by this senseless act of violence. John Abbott College stands with its community during this difficult time. We are united in grief, and we stand together in moments like these, offering our support and compassion to all those impacted.

We also take a moment to honour the bravery and sacrifice of our law enforcement officers, who never hesitate to place themselves in harm’s way in order to protect and serve our communities.

🏆 Jeff Mills Memorial Cup Recipient Announced 🏆

John Abbott College is proud to announce Brooklyn McBride as the 2025–2026 recipient of the Jeff Mills Memorial Cup, the College’s highest honour for a graduating student athlete.

A three year member of the Islanders women’s volleyball team, Brooklyn embodied excellence on and off the court as a libero and co captain. Known throughout the league for her consistency, leadership, and exceptional defensive play, she was a two time Coaches’ Choice Award winner, finishing third on the team in digs this season while leading the Islanders in hitting coverage.

Beyond her athletic contributions, Brooklyn leaves an extraordinary legacy of compassion and service. From shoreline clean ups and youth evaluation camps to Social Justice Committee initiatives and creative media projects across multiple sports, she consistently gave back to the John Abbott community—lifting others and setting the standard for what it means to be an Islander.

Congratulations, Brooklyn, and thank you for your unwavering leadership, kindness, and impact. 💙🤍

🏆 Récipiendaire de la Coupe commémorative Jeff Mills 🏆

Le Cégep John Abbott est fier d’annoncer que Brooklyn McBride est la récipiendaire de la Coupe commémorative Jeff Mills 2025–2026, la plus haute distinction remise à un(e) étudiant(e)-athlète finissant(e).

Membre pendant trois ans de l’équipe féminine de volleyball des Islanders, Brooklyn s’est démarquée sur et hors du terrain à titre de libéro et de co-capitaine. Reconnue partout dans la ligue pour sa constance, son leadership et son jeu défensif exceptionnel, elle a reçu à deux reprises le prix du choix des entraîneurs. Elle a terminé troisième de l’équipe pour le nombre de récupérations cette saison, tout en menant l’équipe pour la couverture d’attaque.

Au-delà de ses performances sportives, Brooklyn laisse derrière elle un héritage remarquable de compassion et d’engagement. Des corvées de nettoyage des berges aux camps d’évaluation jeunesse, en passant par les initiatives du comité de justice sociale et ses projets créatifs couvrant plusieurs sports, elle a constamment contribué à la vie du Cégep John Abbott et incarné ce que signifie réellement être une Islander.
