Our Novus Rehab team is growing — welcome to CLARA BAKER, Occupational Therapist! 👋

Clara has experience across the lifespan from infants to older adults. At Parkwood Institute her role focused on supporting clients in their acute rehabilitation on the acquired brain injury and spinal cord injury unit. Her role at CPRI was focused on home visits with infants and families, while her Health at Home role primarily addressed the safety and independence of older adults, largely in their rural communities.

In addition to her work in occupational therapy, Clara has also contributed to military mental health research focused on PTSD, chronic pain, and operational stress injuries, strengthening her passion for Veteran mental health and her appreciation for the connection between physical and psychological rehabilitation.

This breadth of experience allows Clara to adapt her approach to each client’s unique goals, needs, and stage of life.

We’re excited to welcome Clara to the Novus Rehab team and look forward to the clinical excellence and human focus she’ll bring to our clients! 💙

🎓 A special moment for our Novus Rehab family!

Congratulations to our owner, Cheryl Heard, Occupational Therapist, who was honoured to deliver the keynote address at Western University’s Welcome to the Profession ceremony for the incoming class of Occupational Therapy students this week.

With 27 years of experience in the profession, Cheryl reflected on her journey, shared a glimpse into “a day in the life” of an OT across various sectors, and highlighted client stories as well as lessons learned along the way.

Following her words of wisdom for the next generation of occupational therapists, the student feedback was truly heartwarming and two professors shared that Cheryl’s reflections made them miss direct clinical practice!

Congratulations to the incoming class of OT students — we can’t wait to see all that you accomplish!

🎉 10 YEARS WITH NOVUS! 🎉

We couldn’t let this milestone pass without shining a light on Kelly Smale, our Occupational Therapy Practice Leader here at Novus Rehab.

For the past 10 years, Kelly has been an incredible part of our team — continuing to provide direct service to some of our most complex clients while also leading and supporting our team of OTs.

She mentors, advises, encourages and challenges her team every day, helping to grow a highly skilled group of compassionate OTs who are committed to making a difference for the clients they serve.

And behind the scenes, Kelly is also a trusted sounding board and integral right hand to our Director, Cheryl Heard.

Kelly, thank you for the knowledge, leadership, compassion and care you bring to Novus every day. We’re so grateful for all that you do and for the impact you’ve had over the past 10 years.
