STEAM Education Centres is an non-profit organization dedicated to the development and delivery of STEAM education programming and advocacy in Southwestern Ontario. We program and provide access to resources, workshops and community spaces that enhance awareness and understanding of innovative technologies and digital media. We work closely with our regional school boards, STEAM educators and local communities to enable edifying interaction across all age groups and backgrounds.

Giving cloud-watching a whole new meaning ☁️! We have so pretty cool clouds out there and one of them is the mammatus clouds. Mammatus clouds look like bubbles peaking out beneath the cloud 🫧. They often appear dark and scary because they are associated with severe thunderstorms 🌩️. So if you ever encounter mammatus clouds, take a quick picture 📸 and then duck for cover ☂️!

Ever notice how your hair changes colour throughout the year 👩🏼‍🦳? In the summer months, our hair can appear lighter because it is exposed to more of the Sun's UV rays. Those UV rays break down the colour pigments in our hair called melanin, making it look lighter 👱🏻‍♀️. In contrast, during the winter months, we get exposed to less of the Sun's UV rays, so our melanin is chilling in our hair, causing the darker appearance 🧑🏼‍🦱. ; #

Light travels fast 💡! But when the Sun ☀️ being so far away, it still takes a bit of time to reach us. In fact, it takes about 8 minutes for sunlight to reach us on Earth ⌚. That means that if the Sun, for some reason, exploded 💥, we wouldn't even know until 8 minutes later. Crazy, right?

Nicknamed as "white horse" 🐴 and "little sheep" 🐑 in Spanish and even "jumping rabbits" 🐇 in Japanese, white caps are referred to as the white foam you see on top of waves 🌊. White caps occur when the wind makes waves grow in height and length. When the height becomes too large for it's length, the waves becomes unstable and breaks at the top, causing white caps. A beautiful sight for a windy day by the waves 🍃🌊.

Handedness or hand preference ✍🏿 is determined by a whole lot of different things in the human body. Yet, scientists 👩🏼‍🔬 believe that it is related to the different halves of our brain 🧠. More specifically, your left and right brain control the opposite half of your body, which means that your left brain influences your right-handedness 🫱🏾. And vice versa! The right half of your brain influences your left-handedness 🫲🏻. Bonus fun fact: Around 10% of people are left-handed.
