Those bumps on the top of your tongue are called TASTEBUDS! They are sensory organs that help you taste the many sweet, sour, and salty flavours of food. Just like any other cell, they have a life span and technically, your tongue has a brand new set every 10-14 days.

Today was a day of community giveback that saw us give 14 computers to people in need in Oxford County. Thanks to the generous support of United Way Oxford who helps us make this happen. We then met with Wellkin (formerly OECYC) who took part by donating their used computers to give new life for future community use for a perfect cycle of giving today! An incredible fact that many don't know is that... 99% of all bees are female! The female bees do all the work to forage, build, and protect the hive. The male bee's only job is reproduction and they are eventually evicted from the hive. Wow.

Light takes time to travel across the vast distances of space, the light entering our eyes from these distant objects could be from many years ago!! If a star is 100 light-years away, its light takes 100 years to reach us. Therefore, you are viewing the star as it was 100 years ago. Our own sun’s light takes approximately 8 minutes to reach Earth, just imagine how long it takes for others stars to reach us

Twinkle twinkle little star... except the twinkle is just an illusion!

Despite being the closest planet in our to the hot sun, Mercury has ice in its shaded polar regions.

The last but not least Scientist Spotlight of this week is Marie Curie. She is most famous for her groundbreaking research on radioactivity --- noting that radiation is emitted directly from the atom itself, fundamentally changing how scientists understood matter and atomic structure. She is also the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person to win a Nobel Prize twice and the only person to win a Nobel Prize in two different scientific fields.

Todays Scientist Spotlight is... Rosalind Franklin. She was a chemist who made key discoveries in the structure of our DNA.
