Our 2026 South Africa travel-module is nearing its end. Today our students depart Cape Town for a three day final retreat in Hermanus to digest and examine the collective experience of the past two weeks.

St. Stephen’s University now offers a unique and thoroughly enriching Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S.) in Peace & Justice which includes accommodating online and short intensive in-person and study aboard course delivery methods to allow students to complete their program without the need to uproot their lives.

This program equips students to engage our hostile, divided, unjust, oppressive, and violent world using practical grassroots and practical community-based peacebuilding skills and training with a theological foundation in peace and justice and through a transfigured interior life, prophetic imagination, and contemplative basis from which to participate in God’s unfolding subversive and upside-down kingdom.

Always a gift for our students to spend some time at Holy Cross Abbey in Rostrevor with Brother Thierry Marteaux exploring histories of ecumenical peacebuilding.

Bro. Thierry Marteaux was born in Paris in 1965. After studying French literature at university, he became a Benedictine monk at the Abbey of Bec in Normandy in 1988. With his brothers, he arrived in North Ireland in 1988 to establish a new monastery in Rostrevor. The community lives the mission of spiritual ecumenism, rooted in prayer, conversion of the heart, and charity.
