Earlier this month, Kiyokan Judo Club partnered with the Saint John Learning Exchange to celebrate Women’s Empowerment Alumni Week!

We were grateful to all of the amazing activities and to those who facilitated!

Maud hosted a Mindful Judo at the Kiyokan Judo Club with our current and alumni of Women’s Empowerment programming. This was a great opportunity for participants to move their bodies while practicing mindfulness and something new 😁

Did you know that a judo gi (or judogi) is the traditional heavy-duty uniform worn for practicing and competing in the martial art of judo?

If you are a new student or a student that has outgrown their gi dont’worry. We have your back covered. Ha!

The Judo Club has some used gis you can borrow. If we don’t have a gi that will fit, you can wear a long sleeve shirt that you don’t mind if it gets stretched and long gym pants.

We will order gis before the end of our first month.

If you have an old gi and would like to donate it to the Club we would love this. You can also sell your used gi. You can put an ad on our bulletin board at the dojo.

Hi Everybody,

On Tuesday, June 16th we had our last class for this Judo Season and what a night it was. We had a lot to celebrate this season!

We started off welcoming our VIP's, Carrie and John. Carrie and John were the founders of the Kiyokan Judo Club.

Then Mateo, playing the violin, accompanied by singers Maria Scammell and Ronni Kinsella started our festivities with O'Canada.

Next was the Kiyokan World Judo Championships where we saw some amazing competition.

Our Kiyokan World Champions for the 2025/2026 judo season are:
Beatrix Chedore
Sam O'Toole
Juliet Rocca
Theo Vail
Simon Belding
Ben Tobin
Ronni Kinsella
Fletcher Chenhall
Nico Rocca
Connor Brideau

Next we passsed out grading certificates. We had 32 students who advanced to their new belt levels! Well done!

Then it was time to pass out some awards:
Outstanding Tiger Award - Octavia Cooper
Most Improved Student - Olivia Lowther
Most Promising Male - Chris McKiel
Most Promising Female- Juliet Rocca
Best Competitor- Mateo Bregel
Kiyokan Award - Theo Vail
Kano Award- Martine and Billy Chenhall

And finally we ended the night by celebrating with my homemade pizza that came in Domino's pizza boxes.

Now some Thank You's!

Thank you to all our volunteer instructors. I believe the Kiyokan Judo Club offers judo classes second to none because of you!

Parents and others who are responsible for getting the students to class - Thank you!

Students you made this year very rewarding for the Instructors. Your commitment and energy made it easy for us to stay motivated and look forward to attending the classes.

I would like to thank everybody who helped out this year. Your assistance makes the Club the success it is!

Shavon, thank you for being our Social Media person. You do an amazing job!

There is a saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. So I will sign off with a picture instead of my thousand words to illustrate what a great group we have at the Kiyokan Judo Club!

See you in September!

Sensei Jeff
