Noah's Ark Preschool is a Christian play- based program that provides opportunities for children between the ages of 3 and 5 to question, explore and experience their world while developing skills to prepare them for school and for lifelong learning. The school philosophy is applied through theme- based programming, where the theme is used to introduce concepts, provide opportunities for discussion and curiosity. The facility is divided into centres to meet different learning goals and levels of ability, working towards building skills that will assist them in entering Kindergarten and beyond. Each centre focusses on a specific skill, and they are all opportunities to learn turn taking, problem solving, cooperation and asking for help. Students develop language skills, increase vocabulary and learn to be respectful of each other's rights. Each day begins with centre time. The children move freely from one centre to the other, whether it be the craft and painting centre, play-dough, block corner, granular or water centre, listening centre, dramatic play centre, or other centres created to reinforce the theme of the week and facilitate learning. Next we have circle time where the calendar and weather are discussed, songs are sung and a discussion on the theme is held. Children are introduced to non denominational Christian faith concepts through Bible Stories. Each child brings his or her own nutritional, nut-free snack for snack time. The children then participate in a large muscle activity or game, emphasizing cooperative play and socialization. The day ends with a story relating to the theme. On Tuesday afternoons children registered in the Outdoor Blended program will experience their centre time outdoors in curated movement and learning activities. The children go on field trips during the year to such places as the library, the fire hall, the police station, and the farm. Once a month we have a cooking day.
