Thank you to everyone who performed their civic duty by voting on Monday or in the advanced polls last week. I have always believed it is important to vote and thank each of you for supporting democracy. Thank you for taking the time to wait in the lines on Monday.

Thank you to all the candidates who put their names forward to run in the Municipal and School Board elections. It was impressive to see how many people wanted to help the community of St. Albert. We really do live in an incredible city.

While we do not know the official St. Albert results of Monday’s election yet, I am grateful to those who supported me to run for a second term. I am so appreciative of those who sent encouragement over the last two months, put up signs on their front lawns, voted for me, and told others to also vote.
Thank you!

With the upcoming election and the uncertainty for teachers, students and families, the thought of campaigning has not sat well with me and why I have not started. However, I feel it is important that teachers know I support them and I stand with them.

I believe in public education!

I believe in the teachers who are in public education!

I have heard teachers share their concerns over increased classroom complexities, larger class sizes, increased mental health concerns and fewer resources for teachers and students. I have seen teachers do their absolute best to support their students with less and often spending their own money to help students. Teachers are also having their own increased stress and mental health struggles but they continue to put their students first.

When teachers are supported, student success increases.

I have always advocated for increased funding, increased classroom resources, increased mental health supports, and increased supports for inclusive needs and marginalized students. It is important to continue advocating for these things and support teachers, while still collaborating and listening to families.

Thank you to every teacher and all support staff for continuing to go above and beyond for students and their families.

Sincerely,
Sheyanne

On National Day of Truth & Reconciliation Day, we have spent the day to honor the survivors, those who were lost and never returned home, their families, and all those impacted by residential schools. Today is a day to listen and learn more about the historical and contemporary contributions of Indigenous peoples across this country.

On September 30th we listen, learn and honour the history, culture, traditions and languages of Indigenous peoples in St. Albert, Alberta and Canada. We acknowledge and recognize the harms, injustices, broken promises, and intergenerational trauma that have been caused by residential schools and colonialism.

Thank you to St. Albert Public Schools for your continued work towards reconciliation. Thank you for your commitment to leaning into discomfort, listening, and learning how to grow relationships grounded in reciprocity and our role to grow in more right relations.

Thank you to the City of St. Albert for hosting today’s National Day of Truth and Reconciliation event at Mission Park. It was powerful to see all the orange shirts in the Honour Walk to the Healing Garden. Thank you for creating a space where we could all Walk Together today, hear the drums and Indigenous voices, and start things in a good way.
