This week, Vinny and the Campers branched out to Ben Phillips from the Department of Geography & Environment and the Acadian Forest Dendrochronology Lab to learn about the European copper beech outside Ralph Pickard Bell Library. This nearly 70-year-old tree has survived two major library construction projects (including the one happening right now!) and may be the largest tree on campus by diameter. As the only beech of its kind on campus, it’s also an important habitat for lichens and other species.
