Today, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and take time to reflect on the lasting impacts of residential schools and the ongoing experiences of Indigenous communities.

Today is an opportunity to listen, learn, and reflect. Take some time to read through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and consider what reconciliation means to you and what it can look like in your everyday life.

Supporting Indigenous voices, communities, and initiatives is something we should continue throughout the year. Reconciliation is not just about one day of reflection, but an ongoing commitment to learning and taking action.

We acknowledge that the Mount Allison Students’ Union (MASU) operates on the ancestral and unceded lands of the Mi’kmaq in Mi;kma’ki, as recognized by the Peace and friendship Treaties of 1752. These treaties uphold Mi’kmaq and Walastakwiyik titles, affirming the ongoing relationship between nations and our responsibility to respect and honour this land.

We hope everyone’s had a good first few weeks of classes!

Over the summer MASU’s 2026-2027 executives worked on their portfolios, attended conferences such as the Maritime Student Congress, and drafted the 2026-2027 annual priorities at their executive retreat.

These are just a few highlights from a much longer list of what the Executive has been up to over the summer. They also supported events run by Shinerama Chair Ava Horwood and helped Kathryn Canning plan and run the very successful Mount Allison 2026 orientation.

And that’s only what we can share for now. There are lots of exciting things still in the works, and we’re looking forward to sharing more with you throughout the year!
