Family Smart hosting valuable supportive events for parents and caregivers coming up in January.

https://familysmart.ca/events/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQKNjYyODU2ODM3OQABHr1povEhVTURFGiA_sW13tC4HOaNiOXPUZgzXizzma6fsCW9d7GoT8Pc9OVl_aem_VPPy8jc60B8qGWotaCsB7A

As we move through the quiet days between Christmas and the new year, we’re holding close the parents and caregivers who are carrying a lot. If you’re feeling stretched thin or unsure of what your family needs next, we want you to know you’re not alone.

Our January online events offer a place to learn together and feel supported. We’ll be exploring how to connect with our kids when anxiety leads to social isolation, and how to support safety at home after a mental health crisis.

If you have a moment to join us this coming month, we would love to have you. Visit familysmart.ca/events to register

Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movies, Disney's Descendants: The Musical is a brand-new musical jam-packed with comedy, adventure, Disney characters, and hit songs from the films! Imprisoned on the Isle of the Lost – home of the most infamous villains who ever lived – the teenaged children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar, and Cruella De Vil have never ventured off the island… until now. When the four troublemakers are sent to attend prep school alongside the children of beloved Disney heroes, they have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?

The Board’s Strategic Plan and the First Peoples Principles of Learning provide the framework for the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in Saanich Schools.

When used appropriately, GenAI tools have the potential to enhance the teaching and learning process. In addition to direct classroom uses, streamlining administrative and organizational tasks can optimize efficiency, enabling everyone to prioritize ongoing human interactions.

Education is inherently relational, with human connections playing a vital role in the learning process. While GenAI tools can offer valuable support, maintaining continued human interaction is essential for fostering meaningful relationships. GenAI tools are used as a complement to human processes, not a replacement for them.

As more people connect and engage on social media platforms, our District Safe Schools team is concerned that when discussions and assumptions circulate among adults both online and in the community, they can have a real impact on children and youth. When inaccurate or harmful information is shared, even unintentionally, it can affect young people’s sense of safety and belonging.
Research shows that when adults model or spread unverified claims, gossip, or harmful content, it can normalize these behaviours for youth. Creating safe and supportive environments, both at school and online, is something we all contribute to. What we choose to post, share, react to, or talk about shapes the digital world children and youth are navigating.
Our collective actions matter. When adults lead with care and responsibility online, we strengthen the safety and well-being of every child in our community.

There are so many ways to partner in your child's education!
Consider volunteering for Stelly's Parent Advisory Council, (we meet tonight in the Learning Commons at 6:45pm and are still looking for someone to take minutes during the meeting!)

Another way is to join the district PAC! They have some great committees like Climate, Communication or Parent Education that could use a few more people involved! They are also looking for someone to fill the secretary position. Reach out if you want to get involved
It is a great way to see what is happening in SD63 and have a seat at the table with so many educational partners, like the Board of Trustees!

Review the highlights from our November 17 COPACS Meeting!

Join us at our next meeting on Monday, December 8, from 7-9 PM.
This meeting will be potluck style, you won't want to miss this!

Feel free to reach out to explore ways to get involved in your school's Parent Advisory Council (PAC) or District Parent Advisory Council (COPAC).
There are many ways to make a meaningful impact!
