Sensei McInnes recently found the first photo in his collection, a companion to the previously published photograph of Sensei Delaney and Sensei McInnes kneeling together, as well as another capturing them competing at one of the first Atlantic Championships.

Taken behind the elementary school in Hampton sometime in the early 1980s, it captures two people who studied under Sensei Higashi and played pivotal roles in the origin and growth of Chito-Ryu karate and kobujutsu on Canada’s East Coast.

Their contributions helped establish a foundation that generations of karateka have continued to build upon. But perhaps just as important is the friendship behind these photographs, a friendship whose influence and spirit can still be felt throughout our Chito-Ryu community today.

Congratulations, Sensei Robert McInnes! 🥋

Everyone at KV Karate is incredibly proud to congratulate Sensei Robert McInnes, on being named a 2026 Greater Saint John Sports Hall of Fame Inductee in the Builder category.

For decades, Sensei McInnes has dedicated his life to growing karate in our community and across New Brunswick. His passion for teaching, unwavering commitment to excellence, and belief in every student have shaped not only our dojo, but the lives of countless people.

If you have trained at KV Karate, or under the New Brunswick Chito Ryu Association there is no doubt that your karate journey has been influenced by Sensei McInnes. Whether you were one of his first students at the YMCA or have only recently stepped onto the dojo floor, his knowledge, leadership, encouragement, and example have helped shape who we are as karatéka and as individuals.

This honour is a fitting recognition of a lifetime devoted to karate, sport, and the development of others. It is an achievement that our entire NBCR family celebrates with great pride.

Congratulations, Sensei McInnes! Thank you for everything you have given to our dojo over the past 60 years and continue to provide to the karate community. This recognition is richly deserved.
