๐งก Orange Shirt Day & Truth and Reconciliation at RJC
Yesterday, our school community came together to recognize Orange Shirt Day. Today, we pause for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Our Grade 12 students made orange shirt buttons for our school community and recognized 150 years since the signing of Treaty 6, reflecting on its spirit and intent, our shared responsibilities, and our commitment to reconciliation.
Grade 11 students read Phyllis Webstadโs story aloud to the student body, reminding us why her story continues to matter, and the reason behind Orange Shirt Day. They also created paper orange shirts for students to write their hopes for the school year, recognizing that many young Indigenous people were denied the opportunity to experience those same hopes and dreams.
Throughout the year, our students continue learning from Indigenous perspectives through classroom study and experiences at places like Batoche and Wanuskewin.
As a school community, we will continue to listen, learn, and reflect today, and throughout the year. ๐งก
