It is with a heavy heart that I wanted to announce that last night was my last Council of Commissioners meeting at the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board .

It is after much reflection that I have decided not to seek re-election on November 1st, 2020.

My time serving public education in our community has been extremely rewarding and fulfilling however it is time to move on at this time.

While much work remains I am I extremely proud of what has been accomplished during my 16 years of involvement.

Through Governing Board, Parents Committee and finally Council I have made many friendships and come to work with some fantastic people, we participated in the movement to harmonize school taxes and eliminate the disparity between French and English education across the province.

We installed 2 Four Year old Pre-Kindergarten classes in Deux-Montagnes one at St Jude Elementary and the other at Mountainview Elementary School. The board now counts 19 schools with a Pre-K offering

Major refurbishment work at Lake Of Two Mountains High School is all but completed.

Our latest graduation rate is just shy of 88% (87.7% to be exact) fifth overall in the province, and that is a tribute to our teachers, staff and students.

Finally and most importantly enrollment is up in our 3 local schools ensuring their continued prosperity.

I wish to thank the community that elected me, I hope I have served your trust well.

Thank you to my family for their patience and understanding for the time I passed away from them working "my second job".

Thank you to the directors, administrators, staff, teachers, commissioners past and present, for your hard work and dedication to the success of our students.

Most importantly I also want to thank the students, your passion, enthusiasm, creativity, vivacity and sheer joy have made it all worthwhile.

It has been an honour, thank you.

A School board is more than a service center, it cares. Thank you all for caring. .

This evening, the Council of Commissioners recognized the Pedagogical Services team that coordinated the Adopt-a-Family project. Thank you to the 118 employees who put their names forward to help more than 60 families during a difficult situation. Thank you for going over and above, and for making a difference in the life of these families.

Coming up with new ways and approaches are part of our fibre, thank you for being there and helping us face the challenge.

At tonight's Council of Commissioners meeting, Council recognized the 30 SWLSB Physical Education Specialists from across the school board territory who joined forces to make a video promoting wellness, staying active and eating well; vital habits for a balanced life. Thank you, in this time of need you rose to the challenge.

The Council of Commissioners recognized this evening at the last meeting of this school year, the SWLSB emergency daycare workers for their collaboration, sense of civic duty and for providing daily quality daycare services to the children and families under their care, in a context that was unknown for everyone.

Council wished to thank more specifically, Josée Pomminville, Daycare Technician and also the school board’s Daycare Liason. Council applauded her for her professionalism, commitment and continued passion in ensuring that the SWLSB daycares offer top quality and safe services and that the daycare team across the school board work together for the well-being of all the children they service.

A special thank you to four ladies who worked tirelessly with Josée Pomminville to ensure the smooth running of the emergency daycares during the pandemic:

So here is a before and after! The new tiles are gorgeous, what a difference !

What makes individual school boards so special are their unique individual approaches that have been developed across the province (even the world). That uniqueness is reflected in each school boards' branding or logo. Logos that reflect the vision and mission each school board has adopted for itself.

This approach by the MEES once again shows the shallowness of their understanding of what school boards are and what they do. This is but one more misguided and heavy handed effort to turn out cookie cutter solutions for all. Solutions that are bound to fail!
