"Never criticize others, never become conceited, but just constantly forge ourselves."
He often showed me his techniques, saying ‘Hey Shirata, my Aikido has changed a lot. Take a look!’ Then, I saw that his movements had become softer and more circular, completely different from before.
The way of life as a Budo-ka is to constantly study, train, and continue to grow throughout one's life. A true Budo-ka can always remain humble because he (or she) knows that he is still an inexperienced novice compared to himself 10 years future.
Never criticize others, never become conceited, but just constantly forge ourselves.
—Rinjiro Shirata (1912-1993)
