We are committed to an educational environment that follows a true and fully certified Montessori approach which has been designed to ensure the student is the owner of their education. Our name, consistent with our vision, uses Italian as an homage to Maria Montessori's roots.

'Mia' means 'my' in Italian. What does the Montessori approach and our school instil in each student? A sense of ownership over learning. A sense that it is 'Mia education'.

Today, our Mia community wore orange. 🧡

We wear orange to honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities.

At Mia, we believe education carries a responsibility to listen, to learn, and to help children understand the histories and experiences of the people and the land around them.

Truth and Reconciliation is not the work of one day. Through age-appropriate conversations, stories, and learning, we hope to nurture children who approach the world with compassion, respect, and a willingness to listen.

Burning through enormous amounts of energy and water to generate AI cartoons, fake photos and disposable content sometimes feels like one of the strangest trade-offs of the digital age.

AI can be useful for science, medicine, education and countless other applications.

But when powerful technology is used primarily to create things we don’t even need, it is worth asking:

Are we becoming more efficient or simply finding new ways to consume more?

Progress should not just be measured by what technology can create, but by whether what we create is actually worth the resources it takes.

Summer at Mia is so much more than camp. ☀️

Each morning began with a Montessori work cycle, giving the children the opportunity to continue developing their independence, concentration, and love of learning—even during the holidays.

Afternoons were filled with adventure: preparing lunch for over 40 people, creating beautiful art, berry picking, beach days, and, of course, the perfect excuse for an ice cream. 🍓🏖️🍦

There was laughter, friendship, responsibility, creativity, and so much joy woven into every day.

Because learning doesn’t stop when summer begins—it simply looks a little different.

One of the most frequent topics we discuss with our families is discipline. How do we do it? What do we say? How can we parent differently than we were parented? Should we give the child freedom to explore? There is almost too much information out there causing confusion around the parent’s role as leaders for their children.

We were so lucky to have welcomed Dr Deborah McNamara, author, practitioner and renowned developmentalist at our recent parent evening to discuss the Role of Discipline.

Dr McNamara is clear. As parents, our child needs us to take the lead. To show them the way to be in our world. And we do it through attachment, by maintaining a connection with them. By being kind, yet firm. This is what helps them grow into confident, independent and capable adults, for an unknown future.

Rest, Play, Grow by should be required reading for every parent, guardian and educator.
