Today, I devised a way to perch a planter on the edge of a raised bed. We had a shepherd's hook which collapsed, but I still wanted the plants to drape over the edge of their pot. I removed the hanging apparatus and pushed bamboo poles down through the holes for the hanger. It seems sturdy enough. Tumbler F1 hybrid tomatoes are growing in this pot and I planted nasturtiums and Italian parsley to fill the empty spaces. I will keep you posted on how it progresses.

Using the post sprink break planning day to do some school garden planning. As you folks go about spring cleaning and big garbage pickup, think of us if you have an old swing set frame to get rid of. I am thinking of using such a frame for hanging planters. I am intrigued by upside down tomato growing and would like to give it a try.

Covered both ends of the gardening spectrum today. I planted 100 cloves of garlic, and crossing my fingers that they will overwinter well. I will get some straw to add a little winter protection. I also harvested carrots. They were the loveliest carrots, planted on the 15th of July.

What started as an accidental cutting, turned into an intentional bouquet of flowers from the garden. Nasturtium, pea blossom (with tendrils), cosmos, zinnia, calendula ( the original accident), and chocolate mint. Sweet summer beauty.

This is gonna be big, folks! The RRHS Community Garden is going back to the drawing table to re-imagine, then re-invent, our garden space. Our current hardscapes have lived out their lives (Thank you for your service!) and we have the materials to start afresh.

We are looking for community engagement.

Perhaps you have some woodworking or construction skills (or want to learn by doing) and want to help in that process - WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Are you looking for a space to garden and want to adopt a plot for the season? - WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Maybe you have expertise in tree trimming or have an excess of flowering or fruiting perennials - WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Let's bring the COMMUNITY back to the school garden - WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!!
