Every business has a beginning.

For Owasco RV Centre, it started in 1972 as a family-owned and operated business. More than 50 years later, it has grown into a much bigger operation, with career paths spanning sales, service, parts, detailing, rentals, marketing and group services.

There's a career lesson in that too.

The RV industry needs people who want to build things, solve problems, take initiative and keep learning. Sometimes that means building a career within an established business. Sometimes it means eventually building one of your own.

Some family businesses pass down the keys. The Hitch House passed down the experience. 🔑🚐

For nearly 60 years, The Hitch House has seen three generations of the McKee and Stoate family learn the business from the ground up.

David Stoate, the newest generation, spent his high school years and university summers working there before joining the Service Department permanently. His family members have done the same, building their careers one role at a time.

Because sometimes the best way to learn the family business is to actually work in it.

Welcome to the next generation, David! 👏

Nearly 60 years. Three generations. One family legacy.

Dave McKee started The Hitch House almost 60 years ago, after serving as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces.

In 2001, Dave's daughter Hiedi and her husband Tom Stoate came on as his partners. Dave's son Chris worked here all through high school and Georgian College, and today Chris is our General Sales Manager. And Dave's other daughter Ashley is the one greeting customers and making them feel right at home.

This year, the third generation clocked in.

Dave's grandson, David Stoate, has joined our Service Department as Service and Body Shop Coordinator.

If he looks familiar to some of our regular customers, that's because he spent his high school years and university summers here. But this time he has decided to work at The Hitch House permanently.

The RV world has changed a lot since Dave McKee first opened the doors. But his legacy is very much intact. Three generations in, we're still a family looking after everyone who comes through here like one.

Here's to the next 60 years. Welcome home, David!

Before Camp-Out RV had two locations and a team behind it, there was a garage, a growing collection of trailers and two people doing it all.

Cy and Helen started Camp-Out RV in 1962, operating from their garage as the company's only employees.

More than 60 years later, that family business has grown into a full RV operation.

It's a pretty good reminder that careers don't always start with a perfectly mapped-out path. Sometimes you start by doing whatever needs doing and figure out where you're headed along the way.

Straight to the corner office? Not quite. 👀

Bucars has been part of the Calgary community since 1959. When the Redmond family took over Bucars RV Centre in 1989, Kyle and Jeff learned the business by working across its different departments, from service and parts to sales and marketing.

Today, the Redmond family continues to lead Bucars, with Bill, Jeff and Kyle each earning Canadian Dealer of the Year recognition and taking on leadership roles across the RV industry.

Turns out, learning the business from the ground up can take you pretty far.

One minute, it’s compact and ready to hit the road. The next, the whole side slides out and suddenly there’s more room to live, relax and stretch out.

And when it’s time to go? Slide it back in and pack up.

No heavy lifting required. Just another day of working with some really cool stuff. 🚐

That’s one of the fun things about an RV career. You’re not just selling, building or promoting vehicles. You’re working with products that do things you don’t see every day.

Turns out, taking things apart as a kid can be career preparation. 🔧🧱

When Tessa Feryn was 10, she spent hours building with Lego, taking things apart and figuring out how they worked. Today, she’s an RV technician, where every trailer brings a new puzzle to solve.

That passion for learning and problem-solving recently earned Tessa the NTP-STAG Canada RV Technician Bursary, supporting her as she continues building her skills in the trade.

An RV technician might be a carpenter, electrician, and problem solver all in the same day. For Tessa, that curiosity she had as a kid turned out to be pretty useful.

Sometimes the clues to your career are hiding in the things you already love. 🚐
