Today, students discussed and reflected on October 7. They explored themes of memory, courage, unity, kindness, and hope. They also reflected on what they can learn from this day and how they can carry these values forward in their own lives and community.

Celebrating the rituals of Hoshana Rabba with Rabbi Susie Tendler Sadoff from Beth Tikvah Congregation Richmond, BC

On Hoshana Rabbah, the seventh day of Sukkot, there is a special custom called Chavat Aravot (the bundle of willows). We beat the willow branches on the ground to represent our prayers for rain, blessings, and a good year. The custom also reminds us that we should be humble and connected to G-d and to our community.

🧡 Learning. Remembering. Reflecting.

Grade 4 students shared Phyllis Webstad’s story and the origins of with our school community. Our older students then reflected on the powerful message: every child matters.

Today is a day to listen, learn, remember, and honour our journey toward reconciliation. 🧡

Patterns are everywhere! ✨
Our Grade 2/3 students explored patterns in math by creating designs with LEGO, blocks, and tiles. Working in pairs, they identified what repeated or changed, discovered the rule, and explained their thinking.

Through this hands-on learning, students strengthened their mathematical reasoning while practicing communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Building skills for what comes next. ⛵

The best part of RJDS? Having each other.

Every milestone is a little more meaningful when it’s shared. Our older students took a moment to encourage our Kindergarten graduates as they begin their next chapter, reminding them that they’ll always have a community behind them. 💙
