🎥 New Weekly Video!
Happy Wednesday!
Most managers think they’re leading.
They’re not.
They’re managing problems.
Every day they jump from one issue to the next:
🔥 A quality problem
🔥 A customer complaint
🔥 A production delay
🔥 An employee conflict
By the end of the day, they’re exhausted.
And nothing has really changed.
Why?
Because solving problems is not the same as leading people.
For nearly 20 years, I’ve worked with leaders in manufacturing and technical environments. One pattern shows up over and over again:
The more problems managers solve for their team, the more dependent the team becomes on them.
The manager becomes the bottleneck.
The firefighter.
The person everyone runs to for answers.
Leadership begins when you stop asking:
“How do I solve this?”
and start asking:
“How do I help my people think through this themselves?”
The goal is not to build a team that needs you.
The goal is to build a team that grows because of you.
What problem are you still solving that someone on your team should be solving instead?

New book coming this fall!
Happy Friday!
14 years ago, I posted a question on LinkedIn:
How Can We Make Manufacturing Sexy?
Some rolled their eyes.
Some didn't know what to do with it.
Some said: that's not how we talk about manufacturing.
But within 2 weeks — 450 people responded.
That told me everything.
The question was hitting a nerve. People in manufacturing felt it too — the disconnect, the frustration, the sense that something needed to change.
So I wrote a book about it.
And then I spent the next 14 years living inside manufacturing organizations and technical environments — coaching leaders, watching teams struggle, seeing what breaks and what builds.
Now I have the answer.
It's not technology.
It's not process.
It's not a new system or a better strategy.
It's the mindset of the leader in the room.
"Making Manufacturing Sexy — The Mindset Shift" is coming this fall. If this resonates — share it. Someone in your network needs to read this.
From firefighting to leading.

Happy Wednesday!
“Karin, I think I’m failing in my new role.”
That’s what a manager told me last week - after being in the role for just over 6 months.
He’s not failing.
He’s doing exactly what got him promoted.
And that’s the problem.
Most people think a promotion is a reward.
It’s not. It’s a completely different job. 😵💫
📌 Same person.
📌 Same effort.
📌 Same work ethic.
📌 Wrong mindset.
You were promoted for what you did.
You’ll succeed for how you think.
And nobody teaches that part.
So people work harder…
get more involved…
try to prove themselves…
…and slowly become the bottleneck.
Not because they’re not capable.
But because they’re still thinking like a doer.
Promoted… now what?
We just released a new video on this topic, because this is where most leadership journeys either stall or take off.
I invite you to take a look.

Happy Wednesday!
No time to train leaders on the shop floor?
Then get ready to spend your days managing problems, downtime, and turnover. 😳
Most supervisors in manufacturing aren’t trained to lead, they’re promoted for being technically strong.
And then we wonder why communication breaks down, why engagement drops,
and why the same issues keep coming back.
Let’s be honest:
This is not a production problem.
It’s a leadership and communication problem.
I’ve always believed in putting people first.
Not because numbers don’t matter, but because people produce the numbers. 🤷🏼♀️
Machines don’t create culture.
Leaders do.
So here’s the real question:
Are your operators heard… or just expected to perform and follow?
Because toxic environments don’t come from the work, they come from how people are led.
And it only takes ‼️one leader‼️ on the floor with the courage to think differently, communicate clearly, and lead like a human being… to shift everything.
No Time to Train Leaders? Then You’ll Keep Managing Problems.
No Time to Train Leaders? Then You’ll Keep Managing Problems.
If you keep saying “now isn’t a good time for training,” you may be creating bigger problems than you’re avoiding. In this video, we break down how delaying ...

Happy Thursday!
There’s something that has been on my mind for a long time:
Why are we so prone to living in fear?
Since moving to Canada, I’ve realized that I’ve rarely been in my comfort zone. There are often fears and worries in my mind. I do my best to counter them with relentless optimism, hope, and faith, but it’s not easy.
People often tell me I have a very optimistic outlook, and I say:
“Yes, and it takes hard work to keep my mind in check.” 🤷🏼♀️
When I look at the corporate world, I notice that many (if not most) people operate from a place of fear, for different reasons.
But the most challenging situation?
A fearful and insecure manager.
Leaders who pretend to have it all figured out, yet fail to truly lead their teams. They follow their own managers blindly, without standing up for themselves, or for their people.
In what situations do you notice fear influencing your choices the most?
