Feeling anxious or stressed out? I find doing any kind of art (painting, drawing, cooking, sculpture, knitting, etc) as a de-stressor and a good way to ease the tension. For example, an activity like colouring uses both sides of your brain and naturally refocuses your attention on something different, which can break the consistent stress pattern.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving spent well with family and friends. And also keeping in our prayers and helping those who are less fortunate at this time and fighting for basic human rights.

Summer season is not yet over! If you were hoping to get a tan without being exposed to the sun, you may have been looking into tanning products. Hereās the science behind these products:
The main ingredient in tanning products is dihydroxyacetone or DHA, which reacts with amino acids in the upper skin layer to form melanoidins, which are the chemicals that produce the tan colour. This reaction is called the Maillard reaction. Itās actually the same reaction that occurs when toasting bread or roasting food! Covalent bonds form that give a āpermanentā tan look. However, since DHA only penetrates the stratum corneum (very top skin layer where dead skin cells are), the tan does not last long! No matter which tan product you use, the skin sheds at a similar rate.
šØ safety šØ thereās a myth that fake tan will protect your skin from the sunās UV radiation! But it really doesnāt and in fact, makes you skin more sensitive to the sun! So you will still need to wear sunscreen! Even if itās cloudy!

Happy Nowruz and warmest wishes to everyone celebrating!Nowruz is a national New Year festivity and is celebrated by more than 300 million people around the world for over 3,000 years.
Nowruz marks the first day of spring and the renewal of nature. The word itself means āNew Dayā and occurs on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox. This occasion promotes the values of peace, solidarity, and consolidation between generations, and within families and friends.
The symbol of Nowruz includes setting up a āHaft-Sinā table, which translates to āSeven Sāsā, features seven traditional food items including:
Sabzeh: A sprout or grass that will continue to grow in the weeks leading up to the holiday, for rebirth and renewal.
Senjed: Dried fruit, ideally a sweet fruit from a lotus tree, for love.
Sib: Apples, for beauty and health.
Seer: Garlic, for medicine and taking care of oneself.
Samanu: A sweet pudding, for wealth and fertility.
Serkeh: Vinegar, for the patience and wisdom that comes with aging
Sumac: A Persian spice made from crushed sour red berries, for the sunrise of a new day.
Sometimes, Haft-Sins include other items like mirrors symbolizing reflection, coloured eggs for fertility, coins for prosperity and live goldfish that represent new life.
Thirteen days after Nowruz is celebrated, a festival called Sizdah Bedar commences. During the festival, families have a picnic outside as a way of enjoying spring. At the end of the day, families throw away the Sabzeh from their Haft-Sin table, which symbolizes a new beginning for families as the New Year gets started.
