Some families don't just support music—they live it. ❤️🎶

Year after year, this wonderful family brings something special to our In-Class Concerts, and this year was no exception.

✨ Nika and her mom, Ava, delighted us with a lively performance of The Entertainer, featuring piano and violin.

✨ Aritzia and her dad shared a beautiful rendition of Salvatore, with flute and piano.

What makes these performances so meaningful is not only the music itself, but the incredible support behind it. Mom and Dad are always there—accompanying, encouraging, participating, and enthusiastically embracing every musical adventure that comes their way.

It is no surprise that Nika and Aritzia are always ready to volunteer for concerts and community performances. When children grow up surrounded by this kind of support and example, confidence and musicianship naturally follow.

A heartfelt thank you to Mom, Dad, Nika, and Aritzia for inspiring our school community year after year. We are so grateful to have families like yours as part of the 88 Keys family. ❤️👏

Behind every young musician, there is often a parent, grandparent, or family member cheering them on, driving them to lessons, listening to practice sessions, and sharing in every success along the way. ❤️

Over the years, we have had the privilege of witnessing the special bond between Benjamin and his grandpa, Leonid. Their connection, support for one another, and shared love of music are truly inspiring.

During this year's In-Class Concert, they treated us to a wonderful performance together - Grandpa Leonid on guitar and Benjamin singing "Vampire." It was a beautiful reminder that music has the power to bring generations together.

And just when everyone thought the performance was over, Benjamin ended with the unforgettable line:
"Apparently, it was caused by a mosquito's buzz." 🦟😂

The room burst into laughter, and that's exactly what these concerts are all about - music, joy, connection, and moments we'll remember long after the last note is played.

Thank you, Benjamin and Grandpa Leonid, for sharing this special moment with us. We can't wait to see what you'll bring to next year's concert! 🎶❤️

Last week was dedicated to our In-Class Concerts—a special time to celebrate a year of musical growth with our students and families. ❤️🎶

Our JMC3 students proudly presented their very first original compositions about little bunnies. Watching these young musicians perform music they created themselves was a truly special moment for everyone—especially Mr. D, who has seen just how much they have grown throughout the year.

Bravo, JMC3! 👏🐰✨

As another musical year comes to a close, our classrooms are filled with something truly special: proud smiles, excited families, and students sharing the music they have worked so hard to create.

This week, our In-Class Concerts give parents the opportunity to step into the classroom, meet their children's teachers, and celebrate every milestone achieved throughout the year.

From group performances and solo pieces to original student compositions, each performance tells a story of growth, dedication, creativity, and confidence.

What makes these moments so meaningful is not perfection—it is seeing how far each student has come since their very first lesson.

To all of our students: thank you for sharing your music with us. To all of our families: thank you for your trust and support throughout the year.

We couldn't be prouder. ❤️🎶

🎵 JOC 2026 is coming to life!

For 13 years, the Junior Original Composition Project has been an important creative milestone for our JAC (Junior Advanced Course) classes and intermediate-level students.

This year, our young musicians created 11 original songs, writing both the lyrics and the music themselves. Their creative work then inspired beautiful illustrations created by students from Bright Palette Art School , resulting in a 26-page illustrated lyrical storybook that is now ready for print.

More than a composition project, JOC gives students the opportunity to transform their ideas, emotions, and imagination into original works of art while developing their musicianship, creativity, and confidence.

A huge congratulations to all of the young composers, songwriters, musicians, and artists who contributed to this year's project. We are incredibly proud of what you have created together.

Sibling synergy in action!

Katelyn (age 13) and Sean (age8) Lau perform their duet 'Snow Fort Hideout' written by Nancy Faber under Mr. D’s guidance.

It’s not every day you see a brother-sister duo, each in their own age group, creating something so unique.

Rehearsing now, ready to shine at the annual concert!

What actually happens during a Yamaha YMC demo class for ages 6–9? 🎶

A lot more than parents expect ✨

In this reel, families who came to explore the Yamaha program got to experience:
🎤 lyrical singing
🎼 solfege activities
🥁 rhythm exercises
🎹 and beginner repertoire playing

And the most beautiful part?

Many children walk into the class feeling shy or unsure… but within minutes they’re clapping, singing, responding to music, and participating together as a group.

That’s one of the things parents often notice first about the Yamaha approach — learning music here feels natural, interactive, and genuinely engaging for kids.

Instead of focusing only on piano playing, Yamaha group classes help children develop listening skills, rhythm, musical ear, coordination, confidence, and a deeper understanding of music from the very beginning.

This was just a glimpse from one of our YMC demo classes for interested families 💫

🎹 What does your child actually learn during a Yamaha Music Demo Class?

Part 4 — Playing the Repertoire Pieces 🎶

One of the most exciting moments for children is sitting at the piano and playing real music themselves — and Yamaha introduces this step in a very gradual, age-appropriate way.

At 88 Keys Music School, the pace depends on the program your child joins:

🎼 JMC (Junior Music Course | ages 4–5)
Children begin with just ONE note during the first lesson, building confidence step by step as new notes are introduced weekly.

🎼 YMC (Young Musicians Course | ages 6–9)
Older students move at a faster pace and begin learning with FIVE notes during the very first lesson.

This structured Yamaha approach helps children:
✨ Feel successful from the beginning
✨ Develop strong listening & coordination skills
✨ Learn music naturally without pressure
✨ Build confidence through gradual progression

Every repertoire piece is carefully connected to singing, rhythm activities, and ear training — helping children truly understand music, not just memorize notes.

Why do Yamaha students spend time clapping, moving, and practicing rhythm before they play?

Because rhythm is one of the essential building blocks of music.

In Yamaha Group Classes, rhythm activities are done in preparation for repertoire pieces and are taught through engaging, high-energy songs that motivate children to participate fully. By clapping to the rhythm in class, students strengthen their sense of timing, coordination, listening, and readiness for the next musical step.

It is a fun, active, and purposeful way to help children build confidence and develop the foundation they need for successful music learning.
