General average refers to the special sacrifices and special expenses paid directly by the beneficiaries when ships, cargo, and other property encounter common dangers for common safety, and the special expenses directly caused by deliberate and reasonable measures taken. A prorated legal system.
In layman's terms, general average is a ship accident. Although your cargo is fine, you have to share the losses of others together.
