Wonderful Work Wednesday 🌸

Today's material comes from the Sensorial area of our Montessori classroom.

Sometimes, the most wonderful work happens when a child takes something familiar and sees it in a completely new way.

The Pink Tower and Brown Stair are Montessori materials that help children develop visual discrimination, coordination, and an understanding of size and dimension. Our youngest explorer took both familiar materials and created something different.

Look closely, and you can see the concentration, precision, and care as each piece is carefully placed—and the wonderful sense of pride and accomplishment when the work is complete. 💗

Wonderful Work Wednesday 🐟🦴🦆 Today's material comes from the Zoology area of our Montessori classroom.

One of the joys of our Zoology work was exploring the natural world through real objects, specimens, and living experiences.

As we studied the five classes of vertebrates, the children examined animal skeletons, a shark jaw, shark teeth, and bird nests. Our learning came to life with an incubator in our classroom, where we watched duck eggs develop and experienced the life cycle of a duck right before our eyes.

They observed, questioned, compared, and discovered — learning Zoology not just through books, but through real, hands-on experiences.

This is the beauty of Montessori learning: see it, touch it, observe it, and wonder. 🌿✨

Today's material comes from the Language area of our Montessori classroom.

The Montessori chalkboard provides an important bridge between early hand preparation and writing on paper. As children practice letters and numerals, they refine their pencil grip, strengthen the hand, and develop control of movement. Just as importantly, the chalkboard invites repetition. Mistakes can be easily erased, allowing children to self-correct, repeat the exercise, and gain confidence before moving to pencil and paper. In Montessori, every repetition lays the foundation for future success.

Today, instead of highlighting a Montessori material, I thought I would share something just as important—the children themselves.

One of the joys of a Montessori classroom is watching children learn from one another.

In a mixed-age community, everyone has something to contribute, and everyone has something to learn. The youngest children are inspired by those ahead of them, while the oldest children discover that sharing their knowledge strengthens it.

It is a beautiful reminder that learning is not a race—it is something we experience together. 💕

Some Montessori materials have a way of bringing children together.

The Red Rods are designed to help children explore and compare length. But every so often, a child transforms them into a winding maze, an extension of this material. As soon as the maze appears, other children gather, eager to take a careful walk along the path.

It's a beautiful reminder that learning can be joyful, inviting, and shared.

Throughout the summer months, we will highlight a different piece of Montessori material on Wednesdays. Today's material comes from the Practical Life area of our Montessori classroom.

Flower arranging is a beautiful Montessori activity that helps children develop concentration, coordination, independence, and an appreciation for the natural world. Carefully trimming stems, pouring water, and thoughtfully placing each flower into a vase are all meaningful tasks that build both practical skills and confidence. 🌸

When A.'s mom kindly brought in a bouquet of fresh flowers, several of the children worked together to create these lovely arrangements. Their beautiful creations brightened our classroom and brought smiles to everyone who walked through the door. Sometimes, the simplest activities create the most lasting memories.

Treasures from Our Little Yellow School

Some people collect art. I collected memories. ❤️

For years, the children turned our little yellow school into drawings, paintings, fuse bead creations, and thoughtful gifts. Each one is a piece of our story.

After 'traveling' ✈️ around the world 🌎, our little yellow school explorers were happy to be back home. They celebrated by making their own Canadian flags - a perfect ending to our journey and a reminder that there's no place like home. ❤️
