On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our students spent time connecting with nature, engaging in meaningful reflection, and continuing to learn about the histories and experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Students took part in a nature walk and had the opportunity to place their hands within a Medicine Wheel. A traditional Indigenous teaching tool that can represent interconnected aspects of life, such as the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual dimensions of our well-being. Medicine Wheels are not one universal symbol; their teachings and meanings vary among Indigenous Nations and communities.

Through moments of quiet reflection, conversation, and learning, our community came together to honour the children who never returned home, Survivors and their families, and the ongoing journey of reconciliation.

Today, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 🧡

Over the past few weeks, our students and educators have been taking time to learn, listen, reflect and engage in meaningful conversations about the history and ongoing impact of residential schools and the experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada.

These conversations are an important part of learning; not just for one day, but throughout the year. By creating space to listen, ask questions, understand and reflect, we can continue to build a community rooted in empathy, respect and understanding.

Today, we come together to remember the children who never returned home, honour Survivors and their families, and reflect on our shared responsibility to keep learning.

Last Saturday, our Lauremont community came together for our Welcome Back BBQ. A perfect afternoon of good food, great conversations and plenty of time to reconnect after the summer.

It was so wonderful to see our students, families, faculty and staff enjoying time together and kicking off the new school year as a community.

Last week, our Grade 12 students stepped away from the usual school routine for an Extended Essay Retreat; dedicating time to refine, rewrite, edit and strengthen their essays while receiving valuable feedback along the way.

And, of course, they made time for a special Grade 12 tradition: coming together to watch their Senior Sunrise. 🌅💙
