Last week Julia had a consultation with the family, discussing study abroad opportunities in Europe, UK and the USA. The student and his mother found out great programs to study in the UK and Ireland, got information about financial aid and admission requirements. The basic plan for application process was built. Consultation is the best way to analyze the prospective student's profile. During the consultation you can get the information related to your situation and estimate chances of admission to desired institutions. Take a chance and PM us to arrange a personal consultation with Julia.

Where else can you apply for the fall semester 2021 in Canada?
Students normally apply to college/university about six months before the start of the semester. Therefore, if you’re planning to begin your study in September 2021, you should have sent the application in winter. But what if you haven’t sent the documents yet? I’ve got good news: You can still apply for the upcoming fall semester.
IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE PROGRAM
Many institutions will accept students until the semester starts. However, the program you’re interested in should have available spots. It's simple: the more popular the speciality, the faster it becomes full and closes.
COLLEGE: HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT THE PROGRAM IS STILL OPEN?
Just go to the website of the educational institution you are interested in and check the status of the programs. I’ll take Seneca College as an example. In the search engine type “Seneca College-Program List” to get to the page “Program Availability for International Applicants” (pic 2). Then scroll down and select the year 2021-2022 (pic 3). In the column "September 2021" you will see a list of programs for September and their status: Open / Closed / Not Available (pic 4).
CAN YOU STILL ENROLL AT A UNIVERSITY?
You also can enter a university. For example, Ryerson University, one of the best Canadian universities, is still accepting applications for the fall 2021 semester. Alternatively, you have an opportunity to enter institutions like the University of Manitoba and Simon Fraser University.

Part 3: Room rental
Room rental is probably the most common type of student housing in Canada. The country has many private houses that are divided by a large number of tenants.
This option is best suited to independent students for whom price is the main factor.
What does renting a room in Canada look like? Well, you pay for a bedroom and share the kitchen and washroom with a few other tenants. There are rooms with a private restroom, but their price is higher. I should also mention that some houses are for females/males only (more often for females only) so that residents feel comfortable.
ROOM RENTAL PROS
✅Favourable price
The key advantage of this format is its low cost. Renting a room will cost you C $550-800 monthly (remember that a residence or homestay will be about 1000 CAD). Basement is often the cheapest option, while a room with a private washroom can be around 800 CAD.
✅Freedom
Room rental offers way more freedom than a residence or homestay. In most cases, a landlord does not live in the house, so the tenants are not under their control. For example, many students bring friends to their place even if the owner is against it. Homestay makes this much more difficult.
ROOM RENTAL CONS
❌Neighbours
As I said, there is almost no control over tenants. Therefore, many do whatever they want. If your roommates listen to loud music, neglect cleaning after themselves, or constantly bring guests (and this bothers you), you should talk to the landlord. The homeowner will then have a discussion with the annoying tenant to fix the situation. However, this does not always work.

Part 2: Homestay
Continuing my discussion of student housing options, I want to talk about Homestay. In this case, a student lives in a house with a local family.
Homestay is perfect for those who don't want to spend a lot of time on household chores like cleaning and cooking.
✅PROS OF HOMESTAY✅
1) Living with a family
Homestay works well for students who are mentally not ready to live alone. It’s just important to find good people with whom you will feel comfortable. If you have a warm relationship with the hosts, then you will feel like a member of their family.
2) No household duties
Many students say that the main reason for choosing homestay is the absence of household duties. In most cases, a fee for homestay includes food, which makes tenants free of cooking.
3) A chance to experience local life
Living with a Canadian family will accelerate the process of assimilation for you. Dealing with locals every day will help you to better understand their culture.
❌CONS OF HOMESTAY❌
1) Following their rules
You will have to obey the rules of your host family while living at their place. For example, many owners do not allow any noise after a certain time.
2) Possible infringement
Your relationship with a host family is critical. If you don’t get along, it will deteriorate your life in the house. For example, many students say that hosts nagged a lot or even limited tenants’ nutrition.
3) Price
Homestay can cost you 800-1000 CAD per month, as nutrition is included. However, there is no guarantee that the offered meals will be enough for you to completely eliminate spending on food from your budget. It will be much cheaper to rent a room without meals and cook yourself.

Part 1: Residence
Housing is of interest to many students, as everyone wants to live in comfortable conditions at an affordable price. I have talked to many students who had experienced various types of dwellings. In this post we will look at such an option as residence, which is a dormitory of an educational institution.
This format is great for freshmen who have just arrived in a country where they have no one. In this case, a residence will be the only option, as you won’t be able to find a room in Canada before arriving there.
Pros of the residence:
✅Fun student life: Residents will have a chance to meet peers living nearby. Once you make friends in your dorm, you can hang out every day. In addition, most residences organize various interesting activities for students, which makes life in the dormitory even more exciting.
✅Location: dorms are often located near the campuses of their educational institution. In this case, you do not have to spend a lot of time travelling to your college / university.
✅Safety: of course, residences are under control. Outsiders are not allowed into the building, unless they are guests of the tenants.
✅Comfort: Many dorms have amenities such as a gym, dining room, study lounge, shop, and even a game room.
Cons of the residence:
❌Cost: On average, a residence costs about CAD $ 1,000 per month. For comparison, renting a room in a house will cost you 500-800 CAD.
❌Distraction: living with friends is fun, but won't it distract you from the main purpose of coming to Canada, which is study? Many students cannot focus on their homework due to a loud music and noise coming from the rooms next door where parties are thrown. In this case, you can contact the employees of your residence to calm down the neighbors.
❌Shared kitchen: in most residences, there will be only one kitchen with an oven and stove for the entire building.
