Mayyybe he underestimated the density of the population (willing? -> paid) to pollinate?

Either way, would be such a sh*tty way to move forward. 😔

10 years ago I watched and learned from my neighbour, hand pollinating her zucchini - I hope a hand pollination society isn’t in our future 🙏🙏🙏

🍀 Day-off ramblings 🍀

Yard snow accumulation slowly dissipating, revealing opportunity! We’ve had our pool set up in same spot past few years - noted by the bare spot in pics.

Rob and I have chatted and dreamed lots of what to do with ‘this space’. Still feeling rather fresh in some ways, to this property - knowing better to take care of which project vs which project. We need to keep access for now but I feel one day we’ll have a natural pool of sorts here.

But this clover lawn idea - I’m feeling this lately. Weather warming up, and got to enjoy a Robin singing in the tree this morning 💜. Even if just a temporary cover, broadcasting clover (maybe mix with some of our perennial thyme)…..could benefit on many levels. 🐝

2nd pic, that pipe and eaves you see - it’s our extremely temporary solution for sub pump water dispersal. We have what we call, ‘River Tress’ and this sub pump water gets pumped out and moved across, away from home site, to our ‘triangle garden’ acre.

But damn what a resource to just pump away. Considering how early the pumps are pushing out already - I mean, no surprise given the moisture accumulation this past season - but to slow it down, to trap n store for another use later when needed…..the concept of human intervention in design, it’s quite fascinating to me. Water is the forefront in design concepts (first WATER, then access, then structures).

Here’s to clover! Grow it, don’t mow it 💜

Happy Monday!

~OBSERVATION~

Sometimes the cheapest, yet most undervalued resource out there.

Our 4th winter here in Rhein - the snow accumulation, right?! This year has been insane.

We moved to Saskatchewan in 2009, and I feel like this has taken the gold star, this winter of snow. We moved out to Rhein, spring 2018 and the learning curve, the OBSERVATION, just keeps kicking us in the face.

Who designs for snow?

Where do you put it? Where does it drain to? How does spring thaw impact you? What do you do with this ‘snow resource’?

How do you make it work for YOU and not just let it become a deep, short lived glorious puddle, your kids jump in? (although jumping in puddles is pretty epic)

Next up - who designs for deer 🦌

Hey friends!!! Geez, last post was July last year…..took a Facebook hiatus, which then got extended….to today. 🙃😬🤣

I know it’s not over, BUT what a winter we’ve all had here! 🥶 ❄️

Sending out our love and intention to everyone, along with the promise of spring, for a season of rejuvenation, for education, for workshops!

Who’s excited to get back into the groove of chatting Permaculture in the Prairies?! I know we are!!

Looking forward to getting our hands dirty with that good soil with you all! Stay tuned for our 2022 offerings. 🙏💜🙏
