Ever wonder why young kids stick their tongue out when completing a task?
🧠 The brain areas that control fine motor skills are closely connected to the areas of the brain that control the mouth and tongue. When kids are really focused, those systems can “overlap”, so the tongue sort of tags along without them realizing it.
Kids haven’t fully separated these control systems yet, so concentrating on hand movements can accidentally activate tongue movement too. It’s something they grow out of as their brain develops. But how cute and fascinating it is to watch when they’re young!! 😋
