Congratulations, Hope Van Vliet! On June 18th Hope will receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts Devised Performance and Theatre Creation with Great Distinction and Bachelor of Arts, with a Major in Music with Distinction.

Here is a little insight into Hope's university experience:

Q: What was your favourite class or classes that you took during the course of your degree?
A: My favourite class was ARTH 301: Art Theory and Art Criticism. I’m not usually a visual arts person, but the course was incredibly comprehensive and surprisingly applicable to the performing arts.

Q: Where was your favourite on-campus study spot?
A: I had the privilege of serving as Co-President of the Theatre Students’ Association during my studies, so the TSA office and MAP student lounge became my go-to spots on campus.

Q: What advice would you give a new student entering university?
A: The best advice I can offer to new students is to get involved on campus and talk to your classmates. There’s a club or student society for every interest, and the people you meet can become your greatest support system.

Q: Did you change your major/degree plan during your time at university?
A: I did change my degree plan during university. I originally enrolled in the Bachelor of Music program, but after taking some theatre electives I realized the theatre program was a better fit for me. While I initially planned to move my music courses into a minor, I ultimately decided to pursue both a BFA in Theatre and a BA in Music simultaneously.

Q: What are your post-grad plans?
A: I am now pursuing graduate studies in Arts Management at Queen’s University while continuing to work in theatres across the province. This summer I will be stage managing at Dancing Sky Theatre in Meacham and Souris Valley Theatre in Estevan.

Congratulations, Alissa Sadler! On June 18th, Alissa will receive her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Minor in Law & Society with Great Distinction.

Here is a little insight into Alissa's university experience:

Q: What was your favourite class or classes that you took during the course of your degree?
A: My favourite class was Qualitative Research Methods (SOST 307)! It was awesome working with a community Non-Profit Organization, Barrier Free Saskatchewan, and it opened my eyes to how academia and research can make a tangible difference in real life. Sociology of Disasters (SOC 333) was also a favourite because it gave me a completely different perspective on both natural and man-made disasters, drawing on various theories.

Q: Where was your favourite on-campus study spot?
A: I liked studying in Luther Library and the 6th floor of the Education Building.

Q: What advice would you give a new student entering university?
A: Put yourself out there! I was blessed with so many amazing academic opportunities and got to meet some truly great people just by reaching out and making myself known, even when it felt awkward or uncomfortable.

Q: Did you change your major/degree plan during your time at university?
A: I was very fortunate to have fallen in love with Sociology pretty quickly, so that didn't change. However, as I went through my degree, I found myself drawn to many Justice Studies and Human Justice-related courses, which led me to take on my minor in Law & Society in my 3rd year!

Q: What are your post-grad plans?
A: I'm currently working full-time, which has provided me with lots of invaluable experience. In the future, I also plan to return to school for a postgraduate degree.

Last week, our community came together for a series of “How to Walk and Roll” Awareness Walks in recognition of National AccessAbility Week.

We wore red in solidarity with the disability community and reflected on the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and removing barriers so that everyone can fully participate in our communities.

Congratulations to the team behind mamawiitohtewak: Walking Together at Luther College!

At RCE Saskatchewan’s 18th Annual Awards for Achievement in Education for Sustainable Development, mamawiitohtewak: Walking Together at Luther College received the Garth Pickard Award for Post-Secondary Excellence in Education for Sustainable Development.

Dr. Elder Lorna Standingready and Dr. Brenda Anderson accepted the award on behalf of the team in Watrous, SK last week.
