One of the ways we help our dancers better understand the music they’re dancing to is by exploring Afro-Cuban rhythms and movement.

Learning guaguancó challenges dancers to listen differently, connect movement to percussion, use their whole body, and understand more of the cultural roots that have influenced salsa.

Because becoming a stronger salsa dancer isn’t just about learning more steps.

It’s about understanding where the movement comes from, what you’re hearing, and why you’re moving. 🩵

Sometimes dedication looks like performing under the lights.

Sometimes it looks like practicing at your local gym at 6:00 in the morning. 😂

One of the things we want our dancers to understand is that improvement doesn’t only happen during class. It happens in the extra reps, the corrections you keep working on, and the decision to practice again even when no one is watching.

That applies to teachers, too.

We’re still learning. Still practicing. Still putting in the reps.

Because if we ask our dancers to keep growing, we should be willing to do the same. 🩵🔥

BACK TO DANCE 🔥

A new dance season is almost here! A few little things now can make those first weeks back feel a whole lot better:

🕺 MOVE YOUR BODY
You don’t need to start training like crazy. Stretch, go for walks, dance around the house, just get moving again.

👟 BREAK IN YOUR SHOES
New dance shoes? Wear them around the house for short periods before that first class. Your feet will thank you.

🎶 GET BACK INTO THE MUSIC
Put on some salsa! Listen for the beat, find the 1, clap along, or practice your basic. Musicality starts with listening.

👜 CHECK YOUR DANCE BAG
Shoes, water bottle, hair supplies, deodorant, whatever you usually need. Now is a very good time to discover those shoes don’t fit anymore. 😂

💛 DON’T STRESS ABOUT BEING “READY”
You might feel a little rusty. That’s normal. The first few classes are about getting your body moving again and finding your groove.

We’re getting excited. See you back in the studio soon. 🩵✨

One of the biggest misconceptions about partner dancing is that it’s all memorized.

It isn’t.

A good lead doesn’t force movement. A good follow doesn’t try to guess what’s coming next.

Instead, they listen to each other through movement.

And here’s something else many people don’t realize: anyone can learn to lead, and anyone can learn to follow. They’re simply different skills, and both are equally valuable.🩵

No two people hear the music exactly the same way. That’s one of our favourite things about salsa🩵

Every dancer brings their own personality, musicality, and style to the floor. The steps might be the same, but the way they’re danced never is.

It’s one of the reasons we love social dancing so much.

The music stays the same.

The experience never does. 💃✨

“Why do you include different dance styles in your classes?”

Simple. Every style teaches something different.

The goal has never been to teach just routines.
The goal is to help every dancer become the best they can be. 🩵
