A unique sacrifice in the annals of human history by the 9th Sikh Guru, Guru TeghBahadur Sahib. For protecting the followers of another faith, the Guru and his sikhs gave their life. , , , , , , , , , ,
Today marks the Shaheedi (Day of Martyrdom) of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji(the ninth Sikh Guru). A sacrifice that is incomparable to any other; it was on this day that the religious leader of one faith (Sikhi) gave Their life so that another (the Hindus) could continue to practise their faith without the oppression of conversion from the Mughal tyrants.
Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji challenged the Mughal kingdom and stated if you can convert me, then the whole of Hindustan (today’s India and Pakistan) will convert to your faith.
The Mughal Empire tried their best to instil fear into the Guru by imprisoning them, having their three beloved Gursikhs obtain Shaheedi in-front of their very eyes, but still, the Guru never wavered.
Eventually, it came time for Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji to give their life for righteousness, to which they were beheaded in Delhi – Chandni Chowk in 1675. As Sri Guru Gobind Singh writes about their father:
ਸੀਸੁ ਦੀਆ ਪਰੁ ਸਿਰਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਆ ॥
Sees deea par sirar n deeaa
Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur gave their head but never gave up their principles or their Sikhi.
May this inspire us to flourish in our Sikhi and praise Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on this blessed day.

Waheguruji ka Khalsa Waheguruji ki Fateh,
Good evening, Everyone,
I hope all are doing well in this uncertain time. Greetings from Sikh Students’ Association U of R team.
This month on the World Religion day (Jan 17, 2021) our team received the Spiritual Service Award (Youth Category) from Regina Multi-Faith Forum (RMFF). Sumandeep Kaur received the award on behalf of our team online after the ceremony with RMFF.
We are grateful to the RMFF team for sharing this prestigious award to the team. This achievement is not possible without our volunteers, team leaders, external members, and Sikh Community in Regina who has shared their time, energy, and funds to support several projects completed by the SSA U of R team.
SSA U of R has been active on campus from last 3 years. The No Hungry Tummy project Regina was one of the successful accomplishments last year. The team was able to serve the community around by delivering free grocery packages to needy elders and students.
We are blessed to work with several organization including World Sikh Organization, Terry Fox, RMFF, GNFK, Luther College, and Sikh Society of Regina. We are again thankful to RMFF for considering our team for this award.
