Members of the UR International Study Abroad & Global Mobility team had an exciting afternoon at YQR - Regina International Airport as they welcomed 30 students from the State of Yucatán, Mexico, as they embark on an 8-week STEM Cultural Enhancement Program at the University of Regina! 🇲🇽 We look forward to celebrating yet another outstanding collaboration between UR International, University of Regina and la Secretaría de Ciencia, Humanidades, Tecnología e Innovación (SECIHTI).

Over the course of this program, the students will strengthen their academic and professional communication and cultural skills through applied STEM-related pedagogy, hands-on-learning experiences, real-world practices, and cultural learning and development opportunities.

With 62 active agreements across Mexico and a long history of collaboration with the State of Yucatán, the University of Regina is thrilled to continue to deepen these partnerships and offer students the opportunity to explore new perspectives, build intercultural networks, and foster a truly global community.

David Garneau (FRSC) (Métis Nation of Saskatchewan) is a painter, curator, critical art writer, and Professor of Visual Arts at the University of Regina. His work and writing engage contemporary Indigenous ways of being, with a focus on how art can express and form identity, complicate history, stimulate empathy, and inspire responsibility.

A leading critical voice on Indigenous representation and (re)conciliation, his practice considers how art can both reflect and challenge dominant narratives. Across his work, he examines the ongoing effects of colonialism, including relationships to land, cultural continuity and disruption, historical trauma, and the evolving relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

Last year, Garneau attended the Taikura Summit (hosted by Royal Society Te Apārangi) as part of the Tri-Academy Partnership on Indigenous Engagement. In this interview, he reflects on what it meant to represent Canada in this international context, and on the ideas, relationships, and insights he continues to carry forward from the summit.

We don't typically single out our grads, but with Vanna Hung BSc'26, (Great Distinction) we had to make an exception! 🎓

Vanna was busy during last week's Spring Convocation. One day, she was volunteering behind the scenes to help make the celebrations run smoothly. The next, she crossed the stage herself and received some of the University's highest academic honours.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with Great Distinction, Vanna earned both the Governor General's Academic Silver Medal and the University Prize in Science, from UR Faculty of Science, in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement.

And she's not finished yet. This fall, Vanna will return to the University of Regina after earning the prestigious 2026-2027 Chancellor's Fellowship, beginning a Master of Science in Biology under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Cameron in the Institute for Microbial Systems and Society.

Congratulations, Vanna, on your remarkable accomplishments. We can't wait to see what you'll achieve next!

🎓 This morning, we closed out Spring 2026 Convocation by celebrating another outstanding group of University of Regina graduates!

Today’s ceremony honoured students from the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies (University of Regina All Kinected), Faculty of Nursing UofR, and the Faculty of Social Work at University of Regina as they celebrated the culmination of their academic journeys. We were also proud to present an honorary degree to Dr. Bob Steadward in recognition of his pioneering leadership in parasport and his lifelong commitment to advancing accessibility and inclusion.

Today, we also had the privilege of presenting the Honourable Ralph Goodale with an honorary degree in recognition of more than five decades of public service, representing Saskatchewan and Canada with distinction at home and abroad.
