❤️This may be my favourite activity to date!❤️

This past week, my students got to write their own Valentine songs. If they weren’t reading on the staff yet, I helped them with picking what notes they wanted and then wrote the finger numbers for them to follow along to.

It was a total hit and the kids were all so proud to have their very own song they created!

☀️New this summer… Music Day Camp!☀️

This day camp will be sure to bring some musical joy to your child’s summer.

Some activities include playing music inspired games, making our own instruments, team challenges, awards ceremonies, and make new friends; all while exploring the world of music!

Any child is welcome to attend, no matter what instrument they play!

There are two sessions. One for beginner musicians in the morning and one for intermediate musicians in the afternoon.

We’ve been creating some musical pumpkins this week! 🎃

Each student was instructed to create a pumpkin using any of the music symbols/notes they’ve learned. They have been very creative and I’ve loved seeing all the creations they’ve come up with!

💥BOOMWHACKERS💥

Boomwhackers are a super fun way to learn about rhythms and songs! They are tuned plastic tubes that you hit on something to get a sound.

They’re great for practicing new rhythms - such as half notes and whole notes.

They’re also great to use with the Beanstalk piano books! The Beanstalk books have some songs that are letters only, making boomwhackers the perfect instrument to play these songs with some added fun.

Creativity is very important when it comes to music! ✨

Of course we need to learn our notes and rhythms, but creativity is what gives us the power to make musical decisions for ourselves and let’s us shape our pieces how we want.

One way I like to get creative is by using graphic scores! 🎨 I asked some students this week to draw me a picture using various sounds of autumn. Once they were done drawing, we broke down our song by playing each individual sound, then they played their own masterpiece! 🎹

The students were very excited to have composed their very own song!

Sometimes motivating your child to practice can be a challenge! 😩

Coming this week is my new practice challenge. ⭐️ For every week you practice 5x a week, you get to move up a space! Once you hit a prize spot, you’ll get to pick a prize from the prize bin and there will be amazing prizes for whoever makes it all the way to the finish line. 🏆

What are some strategies you have used with your children to motivate them to practice?

This week’s activity for my beginner students is music bowling! 🎳

Whichever pins they knock down, the student has to explain the symbol on the pin and demonstrate what it does. 🎵

This is a really fun way to get them to think quickly and engage with the symbols individually, instead of all together on the page.
