2026 Visual Arts Summer Residency Call for Applications

Please join the BFA students from the Department of Visual Arts for the opening reception of the 2026 graduation exhibition Transmuting on Thursday, April 9 from 4 pm to 7 pm. Remarks and brief artist talks will begin at 5:30 pm.

Transmuting features artwork by Brendan Desnomie, Hallie Lang, Chesca Beabianca Navarro, and Jayden Thompson in the on-campus student-run The Fifth Parallel Gallery (location: RC 136).

The exhibition dates are April 6 through 16, 2026. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 11am until 4pm. Surface parking is free on campus after 5pm on weekdays and all day on weekends.

Formed in July 2021, asâsowêw is a collective of Indigenous women who united to learn and share Indigenous tattooing under the mentorship of Stacey Fayant (Métis, Saulteaux, French) and guided by mentor Dion Kazas, an original member of the Earthline Tattoo Collective. As a collective, we have learned the technical and historical practice of skin stitching and stick-and-poke tattoo techniques, following the revival values of the Earthline Collective. asâsowêw ongoing mentorship includes the following artists: Holly Aubichon (Métis, Cree), Jayda Delorme (Cree), and Geanna Dunbar (Métis, Cree).

The Facilitator improves patron access to exhibitions and programs. The position has primary responsibilities to engage patrons and encourage them to be self-directed learners in the Gallery and maintain the safety and security of the Gallery.

Meet the current Audain Fellow in Indigenous Historical Art 👋

Sherry Farrell Racette (Métis/Anishinaabe-Algonquin/Irish) was born in Manitoba and is a member of Timiskaming First Nation in Quebec. She is a cultural historian and artist whose work centers Indigenous women, archives, and the recovery of aesthetic knowledge through beadwork and stitch‑based practices.

🔎 Informed by her visits to dozens of museums over the past thirty years, “Knowledge Repatriation/A Pedagogy of Looking” explores the work of Ancestor artists. The project also looks at the impact of extended study and experiential learning on knowledge repatriation.

Processing Life and Meaning Through My Art Practice

Marsha Kennedy was born and lives on the Great Plains in southern Saskatchewan, Canada. During her formative years as a professional artist she moved to Toronto, Ontario where she received her MFA in print media in 1981 from York University. She lived and worked as an artist in Toronto for eleven years before returning to Regina, where she currently resides. She retired from teaching at the University of Regina in 2016 to focus on her art practice.

Marsha Kennedy's artist talk will focus on work influenced by her son from his birth in 1988 to his sudden death in 2022. She will include images from her exhibition titled PONDering, which was shown at Slate Gallery in October and November 2025. The paintings in her latest exhibition represent her process toward meaning, understanding, and healing from the pain of her loss.
