There’s something I want to talk about…
I recently received a review that said:
“It’s a beautiful bag, but certainly not worth the price.”
I could delete the review. I could ignore it and move on. But I actually think it’s worth sharing because not every review is going to be positive — and that’s okay.
What I do want to explain is why my bags cost what they do.
Every Buckle up Bag is handmade by me, right here in Canada. There is no factory, no production line, and no team of people sewing hundreds of bags a day.
I choose and cut the reclaimed and designed seatbelt webbing. I design the bags. I sew them. I assemble every piece. I add the hardware, zippers and lining. I inspect every bag. I package your order. And there are a whole lot of hours behind every single one.
Some of my bags require multiple sewing machines, specialized techniques, and hours upon hours of stitching. The seatbelt webbing itself is incredibly durable, but it also isn't always the easiest material to work with!
And then there is something you can't put on an invoice:
The years of experience behind every bag.
Nine years of learning, designing, refining patterns, solving problems, improving construction and figuring out how to turn something that once kept you safe in a vehicle into something beautiful that you can carry every day.
Could you find a cheaper handbag? Absolutely.
But a Buckle up Bag isn't meant to compete with mass-produced handbags. It's a one-of-a-kind, Canadian-made, handmade piece, created from reclaimed materials and made with an incredible amount of time, care and attention to detail.
I completely understand that not everyone will feel that makes the price worthwhile.
And that's okay.
My bags don't have to be worth it to everyone.
But for the people who see the craftsmanship, the durability, the uniqueness, the story behind the materials and the love that goes into making each one…
