We offer a holistic program that includes hands on learning experiences that engage children and promote growth in all areas of development. Visit our website for more information about our centre, our team and our philosophy of early learning and child care. We also have an Instagram account that features a wide variety of experiences that we offer to the children in our care. As well, we have a YouTube channel, "play and discover early learning centre", that has some interactive videos that children can enjoy and join in. Last week, we shared that Play & Discover has spots available, and we thought we’d tell you a little more about what our program is all about! 🌿✨

At the heart of our program is play. Through hands-on experiences, children are encouraged to explore, ask questions, follow their interests, and discover more about the world around them.

We believe children are capable, curious learners. By nurturing that curiosity, we get to learn alongside them as co-learners—supporting their ideas, celebrating their discoveries, and watching their confidence grow. 💛

Yesterday was Truth and Reconciliation Day. We took the day to reflect, learn and grow as educators, and humans. Over the last month we spent time talking to and with the children about this huge concept. We often talk about Mother Earth and all the gifts she offers us and how we must take care of her, but they took time to explore around campus and gather some of those gifts. Then they made stepping stones to represent the children who didn’t come home. Some added offerings from Mother Earth, some made wishes for those children who didn’t come home and placed them in their stones and others added handprints to their stones to represent the hands of the children taken. They also partnered with our Sask Polytech community by sharing orange strips of paper for people to write what Truth and Reconciliation and messages they wanted to share. On September 29th we watched a CBC Kids video with Phyllis Webstab talking about Orange Shirt Day and how it came to be. We then watched and learned a round dance. Children are capable of understanding the concept of children not being able to come home to their families and some of the impact that has. Naturally we don’t get too detailed as they are little but through books, developmentally appropriate experiences and conversations we are working towards building their knowledge and compassion. Every Child Matters. 🧡

It is a rare experience for P&D to have open spots! The children on our current waitlist aren’t old enough to join us yet. If you are a Sask Polytech student or staff member with 3, 4, or 5 year old children we would love to have you pop in for an application and to see our space. We are also taking children from the public in order to help fill these empty spaces. If you need a spot you will find the contact information in the poster. We hope to hear from you. 🙂 # yqrkids

We are holding a fundraiser that would benefit you and your Halloween treat needs. The boxes have 24 treat size bags inside. One case is $12 or two cases are $22. You can choose from 3 different kinds; popcorn twists, original or cheese bites. Orders are due before September 16th and are delivered early October. Please contact us if you’d like to order. We started the year off with a jam packed PD Day last Friday. Quinn, from came out to teach us how to woodwork with children in a safe and fun way. We each made a robot! Quinn stressed it’s ok to make mistakes and we need to ensure the children know that when they woodwork. Mistakes can make things unique and more beautiful than we imagined. Then we reviewed our Learning Language and Loving It strategies using Kahoot to infuse a little fun competition into the learning. We followed with a few more learning experiences and then we finished the day off with a silly award ceremony. I, Melanie, won the least likely to pick up a power tool again award. 😂 PD keeps our educators educated on latest research and trends in the world of ELCC and allows for deep reflection and conversations about our practice.

Today we got to take our artistic talents on the road, well to the front entrance so no roads were involved. 😉 To help kick of Pride Month we coloured on the sidewalk, danced to music and watched as they raised the flag on the pole! Ooo and they gave us freezies! It’s important to the team at P&D that we celebrate everyone for the unique & wonderful human they are and teach the children that we have more in common than we don’t and today was a way for us to share that message.
