Happy Pride, y'all!

It was great to see so many people out celebrating!

And while we're on the topic of Jack MacKenzie (Miss Paterson who teaches there just won Z99's Teacher of the Year award)

Did you know that Jack MacKenzie School just recently celebrated its 25th anniversary?! To commemorate this great milestone, the school held a celebration that featured members of Jack MacKenzie's (the person, not the school) family who traveled from all over to attend, live music, tours, food, and great times all around.

And if you don't know who Jack MacKenzie was, he was an incredibly important educator and administrator who was instrumental in what physical education and outdoor education is today. His 34-year career with Regina Public Schools, he left a lasting impact on thousands of students by creating a school culture that celebrated hard work and kindness.

Today, École Wilfrid Walker staff and students were joined by dignitaries, community members, and other stakeholders to officially launch construction on a new fully accessible playground.

Fundraising for this new playground began in February 2025, seeking to raise $300,000. Construction is set to begin in early July, with the playground expected to open in late August.

Spanning approximately over 3,800 square feet, the playground will feature several innovative features to ensure kids of all ability levels are able to enjoy it, including adaptive swings, a wheelchair-accessible rocker, a musical instrument station, an accessible mini merry-go-round, and more.

This playground could not have happened without the generous support of the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport, the City of Regina, Careport Animal Hospital, Bright Communities Ltd., Wilfrid Walker Before & After Program, Sherwood Co-Op, and many more.

Girls Exploring Trades and Technology (GETT) camps are fun ways to introduce girls currently in Grades 6 to 8 to possible future careers in trades and technology while they attend an enjoyable week-long day camp. Each girl gets a chance to use tools and participate in a collaborative style in creative decisions.

The Regina camp will be held from July 20 to 24, 2026, at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Regina Campus. The deadline to apply is July 10th.

Earlier this week, Glen Elm School held a Fairytale STEAM event for students and the community. There were several interactive stations that combined classic Fairytales with hands on challenges that explore science and technology. Students were treated to an SRC Hot Dog canteen and had a great time meeting up with friends.

A huge shout out to everyone who came by and took part!

Happy Pride! Rainbow flags are being raised all over the city today to celebrate and recognize 2SLGBTQIAP+ individuals. This afternoon, we had our Board Vice-Chair Lacey Weekes join students to raise the Pride flag at Division Office.

Our Division is committed to inclusion, diversity, and acceptance, and this extends to ensuring that 2SLGBTQIAP+ staff, students, families, and allies feel respected and that they belong.
