The annual Sask Dermatology Association meeting in Regina was a huge success.
This whirlwind of a meeting featured both a lecture and a live hands on deroofing session with deroofing expert Dr. Michael Samycia from Edmonton, along with a fantastic chat with the Sask Medical Association about fee code modernization, and so many useful hot tips on practice management and patient care. We received a message from the Canadian Derm Association, drafted and approved a skin cancer screening consensus statement, worked on modernizing our sections fee codes, and so much more.
And itβs the only meeting Iβve ever been to that had a churro and corn dog break during the business portion π€£π
Thanks to the SDA exec for all their hard work in planning this meeting and to everyone that took the time out of their beautiful Saturday to spend the day together learning and advocating for ourselves and our patients.

ππ©πΌββοΈTop 5 Mistakes When Starting Topical Retinoids π
π« 1. Rushing into it: Slow and steady wins the race! One of the biggest blunders is diving headfirst into a high-strength retinoid. Start with a lower concentration, to allow your skin to get used to it gradually, moisturize lots, and start with only a few days a week.
π« 2. Overapplication: A little goes a long way! Using too much retinoid can cause irritation and redness. Use a pea-sized amount for your entire face, and remember to skip the eye area at first, since the skin is more sensitive there
π« 3. Skipping patch testing: No shortcuts here! Patch testing on a small area helps gauge your skin's sensitivity to retinoids. It's crucial to spot potential reactions before applying it all over. π
π« 4. Neglecting sunscreen: SPF is your BFF! Retinoids can make your skin more sun-sensitive, so daily sunscreen application is non-negotiable. Protect that beautiful skin!
π« 5. Impatience: Rome wasn't built in a day! Results from retinoids take time. Be patient and consistent with your routine to see the full benefits without getting discouraged. Even the best retinoid studies show roughly a 20% improvement with 12 weeks of regular use, and it gets better with even more time!
