Please join us for a parent presentation night on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 5:30-7:00pm at Holy Family School.
The Counter Exploitation and Child Trafficking Education Team from the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre (CACAC) will be hosting a parent information night at Holy Family. While this presentation is geared towards parents of teens, we felt that this opportunity of early learning for parents of elementary aged children could be beneficial for our school community. Our hope would be that it would aid and inform you in your technology journey with your young children.
The presentation will provide practical tools and strategies to help you:
- Understand popular social media and gaming platforms, and how youth engage with them
-Recognize grooming techniques, including the use of artificial intelligence by predators
-Learn about the long-term impacts of grooming, sextortion, and online manipulation
-Discuss sending explicit images: legal risks, consequences, and where to get help
-Understand online hate, extremist influences, and recruitment tactics
-Recognize warning signs of human trafficking and ways to protect and support youth
The session will include videos, scenarios, interactive discussions, and practical strategies, creating an engaging and informative experience. We will also highlight the link between online exploitation and human trafficking, emphasizing that most youth are coerced or manipulated online rather than physically taken.
By attending, you will gain knowledge to support your childβs safety, foster open
communication about digital life, and help create a safer environment for all youth.
The presentation will take place in the atrium of the school. Light snacks & refreshments will be provided!
Please note that this is an adults only event and child care will not be provided.
Please fill out this form if you intend to come.
