Tonight is the First Friday of October! Meaning it is a great night to get out and see some art! Galleries and museums are open late and introducing their new exhibtions!

Check out Wildfire Cycles: A Mural Drawing by RDP Visual Arts Students currently on exhibtion at the Marjorie Wood Gallery! The Gallery will be open between 5:30pm - 7:30pm tonight.

This mural drawing was completed by the Second year Drawing students in the Visual Art Program at Red Deer Polytechnic. Each student was responsible for finding an article relating to forest fires. The article was meant to relate to wildfires in Alberta, but could touch on the plethora of political, societal and historical issues surrounding wildfires. The articles covered climate change, resource extraction, growth and renewal cycles, grief, loss, animal migration and rescue, testimonials from fire watch towers, and statistical studies on the prevalence of wildfires and their cause. Using the images printed in the articles, the students collaged a connective landscape that defied a consistent proportion or perspective, building a metaphor for the varied experiences surrounding wildfires.

Join us Thursday for a Free lantern making workshop! All are welcome! Open to the public and all ages!

Our second year sculpture students will be guiding a lantern making workshop between 4:00pm and 6:30pm. We will be using rattan and tissue paper mache techniques to build sculptural lanterns. This workshop is in celebration of Alberta Culture Days and is sponsored by Red Deer Arts Council

The workshop will take place in the Forum, outside of the Tim Hortons on the Red Deer Polytechnic campus.

It's all in the poster folks!

Open to the public! Swing by the forum (by the Tim Hortons on campus) and make a Lantern with us!

To celebrate Alberta Culture Days and sponsored by Red Deer Arts Council we will be teaching folks how to make lanterns using rattan and tissue paper papier mache techniques.

Our Second Year Sculpture students will be there to teach and support!

This event is linked with a light parade happening on October 30... stay tuned!
