Thanksgiving doesn’t need to derail everything!!

But let’s not pretend that it doesn’t change anything.

Here at the gym, we pair down to the ‘Big Rocks’ when things get crazy… and this is a crazy season…

Thanksgiving preparations, travelling, kids in school, kids starting sports, the changing of seasons…

And what are the ‘Big Rocks’?

The big rocks refer to the compound work you’re doing that creates and maintains full-body strength… but also, the things that light you up. The things that make you feel strong, capable, and excited to be in the gym!!

So, let’s not let this week get away on us. Let’s adjust our expectations for what we can invest!!

Let’s go get it!!

A good plan isn’t pass/fail. A good plan, accommodate different seasons in your life.

And that’s the value in having a great coach. They recognize when you’re having trouble staying with the program, they figure out the big rocks to keep, and they pair everything else down in order to stay in the game.

That’s the big lesson, you need to find a way to stay in the game. You need to not give up only to restart in January. It breaks my heart that people develop the identity of quitting and restarting.

A great coach will help you learn how to adjust the investment into yourself, keep you in the game, and keep you progressing in the long-term!

Big Wynn Wednesday from someone who did less over summer… But got more out of it!

She left the gym for the summer, wanting to come back in the fall… But didn’t give up in the meantime. She still went to the gym one to two times a week, she still put protein on the forefront, and she tried to fill her soul!

The results… Over 4% drop in body fat, over 10 pounds down and feeling good. Now ready to come back and get back to some building!

All because she was willing to stay consistent. Not perfect, not “all in“… Consistent and progressive!

There are a lot of reasons I wanted to create the Birdie Strong Parent Package.

But maybe the biggest one is this:

There are little people counting on us.

And when you’re a parent—especially when life asks a little more of your family—it becomes incredibly easy to put yourself last.

The appointments come first.
The kids come first.
Work comes first.
The house comes first.

And somewhere way down the list is you.

Not because you don’t care about your health.

Because there are only so many hours, so much energy, and so much of you to go around.

That’s why this package was never meant to be another giant fitness commitment.

It’s meant to help a parent figure out:

What can I actually do, in the life I have right now, to become a little stronger, healthier and more capable?

Because investing in yourself isn’t only about you.

It’s about having more energy to play.
More strength to carry them.
More resilience for the hard days.
And hopefully, more healthy years with the people who need you.

This Friday, Aspire Children’s Resource Centre is hosting its Evening of Decadent Desserts, and we’ve donated the Birdie Strong Parent Package to the silent auction.

Aspire has been part of Birdie’s story, which makes this night and this donation incredibly meaningful to our family.

The package includes an initial strategy session and assessment, a month of individualized fitness, nutrition, habit coaching and accountability, and a follow-up assessment to help build the path forward.

Not an overhaul.

Not “go all in.”

Just a real starting point for a parent who has spent a long time making sure everybody else was taken care of.

Because those little ones are counting on us.

And taking care of them sometimes means taking care of the person they’re counting on, too. ❤️

Here’s a hot take from just about 20 years of personal training experience… The perfect plan on paper just about never works.

Why?… Whether it’s a meal plan, a fitness plan, or both… It needs to survive contact with your current life situation.

Can you change and should you change some life situations to accommodate your fitness… Maybe, but for the most part a health and fitness habit need to fit in your life and make the rest of your life easier.

A successful plan is actually an evolving plan, specific to you, where you can slowly snowball positive changes in the right direction.

That’s how you get there sustainably, that’s how you get this process to add value to your life, instead of feeling like it’s taking away from it.

And that’s how you build up wins. That’s how you build confidence in your ability to follow through. You don’t choke yourself out with the “perfect plan”. You start small and you start real.

That’s also why we created the birdie Strong parent package. Silent auctioning off this weekend at the evening of decadent desserts!

Fitness Myth Friday. Here’s one I think we need to kill: if you’re not going all-in, you’re not doing enough.

I see this all the time. People think getting healthy means five workouts a week, meal prep on Sunday, perfect nutrition, 10,000 steps every day…

And if they can’t do all of it, they feel like they’re failing.

But especially if you’re a busy parent, that’s just not real life.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is figure out what actually fits your life—and then keep doing it.

Two workouts a week that you can sustain are worth infinitely more than five workouts a week that blow up your life.

You don’t need to go all-in. You need to keep going.

Introducing the Birdie Strong Parent Package 💙

This one means a little more to us.

Our family is incredibly grateful to be one of the feature families at this year’s Evening of Decadent Desserts, in support of Aspire Children’s Resource Centre — a place that has been part of Birdie’s life, and ours, for the last few years.

So when I was asked to put together something for the event, I wanted it to feel personal.

Birdie has taught us a lot about strength.

And being her dad — and a dad of three young kids — has also reminded me how easy it is as a parent to put yourself at the very bottom of the list.

There’s always somebody who needs something. And when life already feels full, adding “get healthy” or “start working out” can feel like adding one more responsibility you don’t have room for.

But I don’t think good coaching should add more weight to your life. I think it should help you carry it.

That’s the idea behind the Birdie Strong Parent Package.

We’ll start with a strategy session and movement assessment, spend a month working together on fitness, nutrition, habits and accountability, and then finish by reassessing and figuring out where you go next.

Not an extreme overhaul.
Not an all-or-nothing challenge.

Just a realistic investment in yourself, designed to give something back to the rest of your life.

Strong for yourself. Strong for your people. 💙

I’m really proud to donate this package in support of Aspire and the Evening of Decadent Desserts.

Are you the type who needs someone to press the gas, or someone to press the brakes?

Happy one Wednesday, today’s Wynn comes from two different people. I’m training online. Both of them have histories of starting very intensely, but also stopping very quickly. All or nothing, three weeks or a month of consistency, then stop.

In both these cases, I knew enough to press the brakes. I would much rather see where six months of consistency gets us, then where three weeks of intensity gets us.

In both cases, composition has improved, strength has improved, goals are being accomplished… But more than anything, they are proud of themselves for their consistent investment into themselves. Rather than feeling like a failure for starting and stopping constantly.

Busy times and seasons make for a little distraction sometimes from why we are doing what we’re doing in the gym! And fair enough, some seasons are very difficult and require a lot more from us than others.

One of my greatest roles as a coach, is to keep that vision in front of us as a team. That vision that got us moving in the first place. All the reasons that made you start moving, changing, seeking out help in the first place.

We called this the why that makes you cry. And it’s important to remember, especially as we hit busy and distracting seasons.

Of course, life is not supposed to be about fitness. Our fitness habits are supposed to add to our life. But during season changes and distracting Chapters, we need to double down on why it was important in the first place.

Because sometimes what you need isn’t a new program. It’s to be reminded of the destination that got you moving in the first place.
