💚 A small check-in can mean so much.

As we recognize World Mental Health Day ahead of October 10, take a moment to check in with yourself: How am I feeling? What do I need today?

Then reach out to someone you care about. A simple “How are you really doing?” can open the door to connection. You don’t need to have all the answers—listening with care is a meaningful place to start.

At Recovery College Central Alberta, we believe in hope, connection, and the opportunity to grow. Wherever you are on your wellness journey, you don’t have to take every step alone. 🌱

🍂 Wellness Tip Tuesday 🍂

Seasonal changes and shorter days can affect our energy, mood and daily routines. A few small habits may help:

☀️ Spend time outside during daylight hours
🚶 Add gentle movement to your day
💡 Make your space feel bright and welcoming
📅 Maintain a consistent sleep routine
💙 Stay connected with supportive people
🌿 Be patient with yourself as you adjust

If the changing season feels difficult, remember that you don’t have to navigate it alone. What helps you feel well during the fall?

🌟 Motivation Monday 🌟

“You don’t have to see the whole staircase—just take the first step.”

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. Recovery, growth and change happen one step at a time. Focus on the next small step you can take today—you can decide what comes next when you get there. 💙

What is one step you can take for yourself this week?

Today, Recovery College Central Alberta recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

We honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families and their communities.

This year, we are reflecting on Truth and Reconciliation Commission Call to Action #19, which calls for action to identify and close the gaps in health outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities—including mental health and addictions.

We chose to reflect on this Call to Action because Recovery College supports learning, connection, mental wellness and recovery. We recognize that the ongoing impacts of residential schools and colonial systems continue to affect the health and well-being of Indigenous people and communities. Reflecting on Call to Action #19 reminds us of our responsibility to listen, learn and help create services that are accessible, respectful and culturally safe.

Recovery College believes everyone deserves welcoming and inclusive opportunities for learning, connection and recovery. Reconciliation requires continued learning and meaningful action.

Every Child Matters. 🧡

❓ Participant FAQ: Do I Have to Speak or Participate During Class?

You will be encouraged to engage in a way that supports your learning, but you will never be required to share personal experiences or speak before you feel ready.

Participation can look different for everyone. You may choose to:
🌿 Listen and take in the information
🌿 Write or reflect privately
🌿 Complete an activity independently
🌿 Ask questions
🌿 Contribute to a group discussion
🌿 Use the chat during an online class, when available
🌿 Share only what feels comfortable
🌿 Say “pass” when you don’t want to answer

Facilitators may invite participants to contribute, but it is okay to decline. You do not need to explain why.

Simply showing up, listening, and reflecting are meaningful forms of participation. As you become more comfortable, you may decide to engage differently—but that choice belongs to you.

If a particular course has attendance or activity requirements, the facilitator will explain them clearly at the beginning.

Our goal is to create a respectful learning environment where people can participate at their own pace. 💚
