Kindergarten Readiness looks like THIS at our daycare! When people ask "are you doing kindergarten prep?" the answer is YES! but it doesn’t look like worksheets at a table.

It looks like everyday, play-based life:

Practicing independence:
Getting out their own lunchboxes. Opening click containers. Practicing snack opening and asking for help when they need it. Putting containers away. Putting garbage away. Putting lunches back where they go. Pushing their chairs in. Helping wipe down the table.

Self-help skills:
Getting dressed for outside all on their own. Practicing zippers, buttons, and shoes. Learning to do it, mess it up, try again.

Building big skills:
Practicing saying and writing their FULL names. And all those fine motor skills through play: play dough, cutting, threading, building, that are actually building the hand strength they’ll need for printing and literacy in kindergarten!

We don’t do “prep” separate from play.
In play-based learning, these everyday moments are the prep. They’re building confidence, independence, and all the skills kids need to walk into kindergarten feeling capable.

That’s the goal. Capable, curious kids who can do for themselves and love to learn.
