I feel so grateful for the opportunities I have gotten lately to support several youth in our community with their education. It takes a lot of work for my students to overcome some of the challenges they face. They have frustrating days and highly successful days plus everything in between, and they keep coming back, working hard and progressing at their own pace, building confidence along the way. When they reach that moment that a new skill set suddenly makes sense and they are able to apply it consistently, the pride I see in them and the pride I have for them compares to no other feeling.

It's going to be a full year of learning along with these amazing kids and I can't wait to see their growth!

Usually, by the time I start working with a student, they are already frustrated with reading and have often determined that they don’t like reading because of their struggles.

One of my main goals is to show them that reading CAN be fun, even if it takes some extra work to get there. How do I accomplish this? We play a lot of games with phonics and words that the individual student is working on or that they have already mastered to build up their confidence. We get active when learning and practicing new skills. We break the more intentional lessons up with engaging activities so it feels a little less like learning and a little more fun! I also work hard to incorporate their own interests whenever possible by creating themed lessons.

It’s truly the best feeling when I see the student that once struggled to read, beam with confidence as they figure out how to decode words that were once just a jumble of letters on the page!

Summertime is the perfect opportunity to slow down, connect with loved ones and to have some fun!

It’s also a time when kids tend to forget or lose a lot of what they learned in school throughout the year. As much as they need the break, finding creative ways to keep some of what they learned fresh in their minds can make back-to-school in the fall a smoother transition!

This summer, share and follow this page for some game ideas and other activities that you can do to help the kids retain what they’ve learned and to keep learning while having fun and enjoying family adventures!

Kickstart summer this year with a treasure hunt! Write clues using skills or topics that they learned this year. Did they work on skip counting or adding and subtracting? Were they learning phonics? Maybe they really enjoyed a science topic they covered! If it’s in your budget, you could have a board game or card game be the “treasure” to add some extended activities to do together or have it end with a clue to a future activity you have planned.

I always tell my students that everyone has things they need to learn, even adults, and some of those things take a lot of work, but they can be done.

I've never really been into posting much on social media. I don't like being in videos or even pictures, and I find it difficult to even know what to post that people might find interesting. However, I really want to share tips and tricks to help kids with reading and other subjects with parents, grandparents, and anyone interested in K-12 education. I am passionate about supporting education, learning everything I can and sharing what I learn.

My goal is to learn to create posts that followers will find educational, interesting, and engaging.

Spots are filling up! I have a couple of spaces available during school hours for homeschool families and ESL (English as a Second Language) students.

After-school sessions are always in high demand. I currently have openings on Mon/Wed for 2x/week students, between 3:15-6pm. Orton-Gillingham students are required to commit to 2x/week, but other subjects can be 1x. For 1x per week, I have 2 Tuesday evening spots available, between 6:15-8:45pm.

Are you looking to give your child a head start before the school year begins? I have 2-3 spaces available in August for 1:1 tutoring sessions. My specialty is reading, writing and spelling, using the Orton-Gillingham approach. For this program, it is necessary to commit to at least 2x/week, though there can be some flexibility during summer. I will be able to continue working with students in September, though the schedule may change.

I am also in the process of obtaining my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification and have opened up spaces for students of all ages that would like to improve their English skills.

I also offer homework support. Most people are not in school right now, but if you are taking online courses and are looking for assistance, please reach out!

All lessons are currently held in my space in Bouchie Lake.

I have some openings coming up in January for children that have been struggling with reading and spelling. Orton-Gillingham is a multi-modal (multi-sensory) approach to learning decoding and encoding skills, helping children succeed in academics.
