🎙️ **KEYNOTE SPEAKER — 2026 IBIS Student Day** 🎙️
The IBIS Student Committee is pleased to announce that **Professor Sébastien Faucher** will be joining us as the keynote speaker at the upcoming **IBIS Student Day**, taking place on **August 28, 2026**! 🔬💧
An Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Research at McGill University’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Prof. Faucher is a renowned microbiologist whose research focuses on pathogens in water infrastructure.
His research interests include:
💧 The evolution and ecology of aquatic pathogens in response to environmental stressors and disinfectants
🦠 The dynamics of complex microbiomes in water distribution systems
🧬 The development of innovative biocontrol and monitoring strategies, notably through the use of bacteriophages and citizen science approaches
After completing a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at the Université de Montréal, where he identified virulence genes in *Salmonella Typhi*, he pursued postdoctoral research at Columbia University in New York on *Legionella pneumophila*, followed by research on cerebral malaria at McGill University. Since 2011, he has led a research program focused on microbial genetics and ecology to help improve water safety.
