Early Learning Program
During each session at Early Discoveries children are welcomed into our inviting environment by our warm and dedicated staff. The classroom is set up with multiple activities with open ended and self-correcting outcomes that are changed regularly to stimulate and encourage learning and growth. We believe in child directed opportunities where children follow their interest a

I used this vase to explain grief to my students.

I told them the vase represented my brain and heart. I normally have more space for patience, focus, and calm. I showed them how little things that happen during the day like noise, questions, mistakes are like colorful pom poms filling up the vase. Normally, there’s plenty of space to handle those things.

But when someone is grieving, part of that vase is already full. Grief takes up space, not just in your heart, but in your brain. It can make you more tired, less patient, and quicker to feel overwhelmed. I wanted my students to understand that if I seemed off lately, it wasn’t about them. It’s just my brain and heart are doing a lot of extra work right now.

It turned into one of the most healing moments I’ve ever had in my classroom.

Afterward, we took time to draw and color our own “vases,” filling the inside with feelings and thoughts, and the outside with things that help us make space again. Like, kindness, laughter, breathing, talking, drawing, resting. We also created a collaborative piece together with the message: “We make space for each other.”

When we’re honest with them, they rise to the moment with so much love and wisdom.

Teaching with visuals helps the information reach students faster than them trying to process auditory information alone. It's real time understanding. In this example it's demonstrating how we can become overwhelmed when we are carrying a lot. It can lead to empathy too. Seek to understand always be curious. These children learn to match feelings to overwhelm, identify it in others. The gift here is communication, learning its OK to be vulnerable and share.

Hello dear families, This includes many of past little ones now into adulthood who are having children of their own, and those now entering elementary school for the first year of kindergarten.

It's a new day, I have moved to doing ceramics full time on a one to one basis while I explore lease options.

Do I miss my preschool routine, days filled with wonder and adventures the children dream up? Absolutely!

However raising my own daughter who's turning 16 this year, and living in this time of what feels like uncertainty I see how it effects her and her mental health.

Ceramics for myself has been transformational. With hands in the clay, my thoughts become fully engaged in the present moment. It's through wanting to provide that experience for my daughter, preteens and teens that had me switch my practise to focus more on the needs within my community.

I am currently using my classroom space as my personal home studio and I'm part of a bigger pottery guild. My vision is to offer one to ones for children or book a facility to host larger classes. I had hoped the town would allow me 4 to 6 students, seeing as I was licensed for 8. Yet no. Only if a childcare. My space offers what some children need. Dimming lights, less echos from traditional high ceilings and open spaces, and less distractions. All spectrums could thrive here. I have some meetings coming up in October that I hope gives me details and options.

As I continue to explore my process over product program I wanted to thank each and everyone of you that were a part of Early Discoveries 😊

Feel free to follow my new adventures and my offerings on Instagram at Bc Ocean Mist Pottery.

Gratitude and memories of you all flood my heart.

So many fun ways to make impressions. I love using animals in playdough, slime, mud but even more fun might be to use a footprint in a cookie. (New one) with it being spring so many flowers are available to press, or roll into playdough. What textures do you love to add within your program?

Dinosaur Footprint Cookies 🍪 🦖 What cool idea!
