St. Petersburg, Russia, is a beautiful city with spectacular architecture. St. Isaac's Cathedral is a cathedral with occasional church services. On the day we went, all the school children were there as well so it was packed. The ceiling is amazing and the cathedral doors as well. It is dedicated to St. Isaac of Dalmatia, a patron saint of Peter the Great.

This city is also famous for the Church of the Spilled Blood with its fabulous minarets on the roof. It is a former Russian Orthodox church and one of St. Petersburg's most popular attractions. It was built in 1883 on the site where Emperor Alexander ll was assassinated in March 1881 by the Romanov imperial family.

Osborne House, Isle of Wight, UK

Osborne House is the former royal residence of Queen Victoria. It is located on the Isle of Wight in East Cowes. Osborne House was built as a summer home and retreat for Victoria and Albert between 1845 and 1851. The house was designed by Prince Albert in a similar style of an Italian Renaissance palazzo. It's a very beautiful place. I can see why Queen Victoria loved visiting there.

St. Patrick's Day on March 17 is almost here. My Irish heritage will prevail so I plan on having a green drink on the day!

TRAVEL MEMORIES: Santorini, Greece

On cruise a few years ago, Santorini was one of the ports we docked at. Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. The houses are fascinating as they are whitewashed and look like cubes. The two main cities are Fira and Oia which cliing to the cliffs above an underwater crater or caldera. To get to the top from the sea, you either take a mule ride or the cable car. Once at the top, you can walk amongst the houses and various businesses or take a bus to each town. When we were visiting, Santorini was a very popular destination for Japanese brides!

TRAVEL MEMORIES: A Visit to the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is so spectacular and breath-taking. It is carved by water from the Colorado River and has beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I did a tour there from Las Vegas after attending a conference and it was well worth the 14 hour day. Grand Canyon National Park encompasses 277 miles (446 km) of the Colorado River and adjacent lands. The Grand Canyon is located in the park and is 1.6 km (1 mile) deep and up to 29 km (18 miles) wide. The layered bands of rock show millions of years of geologic history.

TRAVEL MEMORIES: Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh is a fabulous place and famous for its castle with the annual Military Tattoo held in August. When I was there a few years ago, I did a tour of the castle and St. Margaret's Chapel. The view from the castle is amazing. I also saw the coffee shop which is advertised as the birthplace of Harry Potter. This is where J.K. Rowling would go for tea/coffee and write about Harry Potter.

TRAVEL MEMORIES: Berlin, Germany

A few years ago, I was in Berlin on a cruise tour. I had always wanted to see the city especially since members of my family had been involved in World War 2. The Berlin Wall, or what is left of it, was especially interesting as there are now display boards up and down the existing wall describing how World War 2 came about and the wall itself. The Brandenburg Gate is wonderful to see as well. The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial, consists of many concrete slabs arranged in a grid pattern.

TRAVEL MEMORIES: Ayutthaya, Thailand
On a visit to Thailand a few years ago, I went to Ayutthaya, which is 80 kilometers north of Bangkok. It used to be the capital of the Kingdom of Siam. The Ayutthaya Historical Park contains the ruins of the old city. It is an archaeological site with palaces, Buddhist temples, monasteries and statues. It is an amazing place!
