Now that we’ve finished the free trial of 2024 (aka January), it’s a good time to revisit creating goals we can follow through with this year.

Setting goals can be HARD. Sticking to goals can be hard. & realizing that you’ve once again not followed through with your goals can feel disheartening. I’ll admit, in previous years I was hesitant to set goals because my track record was horrendous for following through.

Not this year though. This year I have a clear vision & plan. I also have all of you following along to help keep me accountable (as well as my husband, who unintentionally set out to keep/beat me).

My goal this year is to finish 100 books. If you want to see how I used these questions to get clear on my plan of achieving it, check out my latest blog post. Or you if you want check out my progress follow me on Good Reads.

I never used to understand how someone could want to write off an entire year & wish for the next one within a few weeks of it starting. I thought it was overly dramatic. This year I understand how & why people feel that way.

For me, 2024 has been an overwhelming-hit-the-ground-running-is-it-over-yet kind of year. I was ready to write it off & will a new year to come through—& that was at the beginning of the third week.

I’ve had to accept that it’s okay to feel this way. To review my resources, lean on my supports & remember to breathe. 2024 hasn’t had a magical beginning for me, but that doesn’t mean the whole year doesn’t have a chance to become something better.

If you feel the same way; hit the link of my bio, click on my blog & check out the love letter I’ve written you.

Last year I read 50 books. My goal for this year? 100!

Books have always been a form of escape for me. A way to learn. A way to live different stories. To dream of new things. Throughout my life I’ve gone from solving mysteries with Mary-Kate & Ashley & Nancy Drew, to watching characters fall in love at the hands of Nicholas Sparks, to reading the dark twists & turns crafted by V.C. Andrews. In the last few years my love for young adult, dystopia and romance novels has remained, with another genre quickly filling my shelves: psychology & personal development. Through these I’ve learned to continue to grow as an individual & a professional, helping myself & my clients as I learn.

I can’t wait to see what I learn & what stories I get to dive into this year. If you’re curious how I’m keeping up on this goal, follow me on Good Reads! You’ll find what I’m currently reading, what I’ve already read & what’s on my ever growing TBR list.

Sometimes we don’t even realize that what we are labelling as self care is actually self indulging.

For example: one of my self care practices is working out 3 days a week. Lately, there’s been a lot of reasons for me to not want to go. Like not wanting to drive to the gym or feeling tired from busy days. In some cases, self care is letting my body rest. But if I’m consistently letting my body rest on days my mind is the one feeling resistant to going? Those are the days I’m leaning more towards self indulging rather than self care.

Self care isn’t always glamorous and it’s not always something that I want to do, but I know it’s important. Going to the gym isn’t just about going to move my body, it’s about burning the stress hormones that build up in my system over the week—which makes it just as important to my mind as my body.

Is self indulging getting in the way of your self care practices? DM me to book a discovery call & lets work towards shifting your practices so they are working for you.

Today marks a day of celebrating. While I finished my Professional Counselling Diploma program back in May, today is the day that I put on my cap and gown and celebrate with my fellow classmates. Today is graduation day. Looking back at the wide eyed, eager and outwardly compassionate student I started the program as brings a sense of awe in how much growth a person can have in such a short amount of time (if you can call two years short). When I started the program, I expected to learn all the various ways of how to support others. What I didn’t expect was how much I would learn about myself. How much I would heal. The girl who oozed compassion to anyone and everyone in need, finally learned how to be compassionate with herself and her own experiences. Even though I’m still learning and growing each and every day, I have never been so confident and sure about the path that I’m on. I’ve never known myself as deeply as I do in this moment.

Today marks the official closing of a chapter. One that I am deeply proud of and grateful for the people that I got to share it with. To all my fellow graduates, you’ve touched my life in a way I’ll never be able to fully explain. I can’t wait to see the impact we have on the world.

This quote reflects a theme within my recent journal entries. I have changed so much throughout my life & while some parts & pieces remain the same—they are not exactly as they were. They have morphed, evolved, bloomed & been pruned through my experiences. With every challenge & every lesson, I’ve grown into the person I am today. I also know that I will not be the same version of myself a year from & I welcome that version with open arms & a full heart.

If it calls to you, I encourage you to reflect on:
• who have I been?
• who am I now?
• who do I want to be?

What I thought my week was going to look like:
- client sessions
- social media planning, creating, posting
- completing homework for my uni course
- spending quality time with my family
- marketing planning & research
- finish one of my books
- keeping the house clean
- getting some movement in

Basically, girl boss my way through the week. & while I’ve had great sessions with my clients this week, I can feel my body telling me to slow down. I have a lot on my to do list to get through this week, but I’ve also had things thrown at me that I wasn’t expecting:
- things coming up with the kiddos
- my period starting (I knew it was coming, but my hormones dropping is killing my energy levels & throwing my emotions all over the board)

These past couple of days have been a lot trying to manage my emotions & show up as the parent I want to be. I know there’s a lot of things I still need to do today & this week. I also know that if I push myself too hard, I won’t be helpful to anyone or myself.

So today, I put on comfy clothes; made a bacon grilled cheese for breakfast, switched out coffee for juice & vitamins. I’m going to work on the things I need to do today, but at a slower pace (& maybe with a few extra breaks to watch SpongeBob with the kiddo).

This is a reminder that some weeks will be busy, kick-life-in-the-ass & get it all done kind of weeks. Others will need to be intentionally slower to make room for the things we can’t predict or control. Both are okay.

Hi! I think it’s time to (re)introduce myself. I’m Samantha Riozzi (call me Sam) & over the past 3.5 years I have been on a journey of reconnecting to myself & building a life that is wholly & authentically true to me. There has been a lot of ups & downs, laughs, tears & most importantly: growth. I left a job that I had comfortably mastered to do something I knew deep down I wanted to do: get my diploma in professional counselling. Helping people has always been something that I’ve been drawn to. I love listening to people’s stories & supporting them in my naturally empathic way. Now being a counsellor, this is something I can do as my career, to help support people. To listen to them. To help them find the answers they are looking for. To help them grow as an individual & within their lives.

A little about me: I am a Registered Professional Counsellor Candidate (meaning, I am a professional I just have training wheels on while I complete my hours). I am a wife & stepmom. In my down time you can find me camping with my family & nose deep in a book (or my kobo). I love hiking to see new places, travelling & cracking cheesy jokes.

I invite you to follow along the next phase of my journey inspiring people to find their own authentic connection & growth. If you’re feeling ready to take a deeper dive into your own growth, let’s connect! Schedule a discovery call & let’s see if we are a good fit to work together.

I don’t know where this journey is going to take me, but I’m ready. 🫶🏼

There’s a difference between the people who are in the front row of your life and those who are in the cheap seats.

Don’t let the wrong voices live rent free in your mind.
