Big thank you to the ACE and UC students who volunteered their time to help with our new Eagle Cam project.

We are aiming to install a live feed camera in the eagle shelter at the Prince Rupert Wildlife Center and stream it on our website. We want to watch the success stories of the eagles rescued from sure death happen in real time. We will be following the eagles as they heal until their release back into nature. You will be amazed at the work done by the great people at the wildlife shelter.

Yesterday we laid the necessary cables and installed them in the eagle shelter, and will be moving on to phase 2 very soon.

The instructors are gearing up for the fall semester by applying our 3D printer to another practical task. This time we helped with the restoration of a 1950s Guild guitar. Why buy missing parts when you can just make them yourself!

This coming fall our students are going to be designing and printing their own 3d objects! Who knows what practical applications they will find for this technology.

Our instructors were busy this week using our 3D printer to give our drone some new leg extensions.

We are all looking forward to seeing what creative designs our students will come up with and print this coming semester.

Applied Coastal Ecology - Student UAV Training Students of the Applied Coastal Ecology Program (ACE) of NWCC had a try at flying the 3DR Solo UAV in April. Enjoy!

Biology 102 students Blake, Erik, and Vari enjoyed a very calm Friday morning at Grassy Bay to measure shoreline biodiversity. They compared the number of shoreline species they counted at 4 different areas to see which area hosts more species. This sure beats sitting in a classroom on a Friday morning!

ACE students from Biology 211 sure do have it rough! Last month they took a day trip to the Skeena River to do view the Ooligan (Thaleichthys pacificus) fish running the river. They saw about 100 Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), more than 1000 gulls, and to top it off, they saw seals AND sea lions in the river.
The Skeena was their classroom that day!
