An important message from Ecotrust, our community partner for the Conrad Garden:
🪴Please help protect our school garden!🪴
We are heartbroken to report that the Conrad Elementary School garden was recently vandalized…twice. Someone has been hopping the locked gate and fence, pulling up 90% of our September carrot crop, along with garlic and radishes.
Prince Rupert has the highest urban child poverty rate in BC. This garden exists specifically to grow fresh food for the children and families in our community who need it most. When crops are destroyed, it directly hurts those vulnerable groups.
If you are the person doing this, or if you know who is, please reconsider your actions. If you or someone you know is hungry, please reach out to the school or local food programs, we want to help, but destroying the garden hurts everyone.
Parents, please talk to your kids and help us keep an eye on this beautiful space so we can finish our harvest safely. Thank you for helping us protect this community resource.
