Happy World Teachers' Day!

Today we thank the teachers, tutors, instructors and volunteers who help people of every age read, write and learn.

In community programs across BC, a teacher might be a retired nurse tutoring on Tuesday nights or a coordinator setting up a family literacy circle at the library.

While phonics knowledge is important, there are so many other things to think about when it comes to learning literacy.
One of the most important things to discuss is syllables. Simply understanding the 6 types of syllables can make 85% of words decodable for many students.
Before we can teach about the 6 syllables types, we can start here with a simple understanding of what a syllable is, and some practice orally breaking words into syllables.
